I would say you will need an aluminum driveshaft when you encounter vibrations in your steel propshaft which usually results from a gear change.

The stock steel DS is certainly strong enough. If it doesn't vibrate, I'd say keep it. If it's a "vibeshaft" an Al replacement would be fine at that power level.
