Advice on torque converter for '99 camaro
Advice on torque converter for '99 camaro
I own Z28 '99 camaro which I drag race. I drive it to track and race in footbrake..usually deepstaging to get good lights. I bought it used with 273 rear end ,raced it for years , and have just replaced rear end with 342 gear,
hoping this would help me leave the line better. It doesn't seem to help because my trans.revs to about 1,000 RPM then car wants to leave. I have just bought B and M torgue conv. 70440 to help car rev more and get better lights. I have to get all work done on my car so I need to know if this is good idea before I pay more money. If not what should I do?

Re: Advice on torque converter for '99 camaro
B&M 70440 is a 2000rpm stall rated convertor, your factory convertor is rated 1800rpm stall. I would definitely hold off installing that convertor,it'll bring nothing but dissappointment. I'm not implying that B&M convertors are not worth installing, but the change that you'd be making is not recommended by the typical A4 enthusiast.

Re: Advice on torque converter for '99 camaro
Stock LS1s love a 3500+ stall. And with a quality converter like a Yank they drive well on the street too. Be warned that you will need good drag radials with a good converter or you'll just be frustrated by frying the tires on every launch.

Thanks for the advice. I need all the help I can get. BTW I use Nittos Drag Radials. They work great with the rearend so far. Hope they work as well if I get the new torque converter.
