ABS INOP after 12-bolt install

I just installed my Strange 12-bolt this past weekend. Let me start by saying WOO-HOO what a difference and I'm still being gentle for breakin. The only problem I have is that now the ABS INOP light comes on the first time I hit my brakes and then it stays on. I don't notice any difference with the brakes, but it has been well over a year since I last drove this car so maybe i am just not noticing anything. The plug ontop of the pumpkin off of the 10-bolt would not work on the new 12-bolt so i cut the plug off of the old and spliced the white wire to white wire and black wire to black wire on the new 12-bolt plug. Is there something I missed??

Re: ABS INOP after 12-bolt install

Did you adjust the clearance of the new sensor to the ABS reluctor ring? Its a b!tch to get it adjusted correctly. As I recall, you have to get it within 0.020-0.040 of the ring.

Did you verify you have the correct top cap for the new connector to screw into? As I recall, the sensor is sent direct from the manufacturer, with two top caps, to accomodate both the 3-series and 4-series carriers. If you put the wrong cap on the hole in the housing, the sensor is not directly over the reluctor ring.

Mine worked very briefly....

It only came with one cap for my carrier so that should not be it. The adjustment sounds more like it. I didn't adjust it at all, but my dad did unscrew it so he probably did not put it back the same or it just was not adjusted right from Strange. Thanks for the help.

I seriously doubt is was adjusted by Strange. Be very careful.... if its screwed in too far, it may already have been damaged.

Re: ABS INOP after 12-bolt install

sorry to dig up old posts, i just got a brand new Strange 12 bolt and this exact thing is happening... Except when i turn the car on no ABS INOP Light, after and ONLY after i get above 5 Mph the INOP light comes on, and stayes on, i did remove the Sensor to splice in the wires from the cars harness, could it not be spaced right? im sure i torqued it down almost exactly where strange had installed it... any ideas?

Re: ABS INOP after 12-bolt install

Ive had very good luck with mine setting it the following method.

Loosen Jam nut
Tighten sensor down until it bottoms out
Back out one full turn
Set jam nut tight

If that still doesnt get it for you, pull out the sensor and make sure it doesnt have any metal coatings on it. If its clean, try 3/4 turn. If it has shavings on it, then use 1 turn again and see what happens.

Mine didn't work when I first installed the rear..... Strange forgot to install the carrier with the reluctor gear machined into it. Took a month for them to build me a new carrier. Stick your finger in the hole and verify the reluctor gear is in there

I had the same problem with my strange, I had to actually rotate the aluminum plug in the case to perfectly line up the sensor with the ring. I had to grind a new recess in the aluminum plug. You can check and make sure you have a voltage output at the plug with a multimeter, I had a spec on the voltage you need for the abs to work that I got from my GM service manual. You check voltage as you spin the diff.
