a4 to t56 conversion!
a4 to t56 conversion!
Ok i know i know "do a search" i did i found tons of info and insight! ok i ordered lastnight the pigtails i needed to get the conversion at least wired up! i have everything else i need to do the swap once i get those pig tail! now what i need to know is can i take the a4 out put the t56 in and be able to drive the car home without sending the pcm out? only reason why is because i need to drive the car about 10 miles to my friends house as an auto and then drive it back home as a manual. once i get it home its going to sit there until i can get the pcm programmed for manual! please let me know thanks guys!
Like Rich said, I really don't see it being a problem. The engine is still going to run just fine, and the worst thing that'll happen is you set a bunch of codes and turn on the MIL. Why don't you just order the correct ECM from one of the vendors and then send in your old one after the swap? That's what I'm doing with my M6 to A4 conversion, though in my case there is absolutely no way I'd be able to drive it with the M6 programming.
well here is why i can't send my pcm out. i am going to a really good friends house to do the swap. he has a lift and thats why we are doing it there. now i have to drive the car there as an auto and finish the swap and drive it back home as a manual. so if i get to his house do the swap and then send the pcm out wait for it to come back and then get to his house and then drive it back i dont think i want to do that to him. he has a bunch of mustangs and he needs is space. that is why i am wanting to drive it there take the day to do it and then drive it back
I drove mine around for a couple/few days before getting the computer re-flashed
. No problem!!
Other than the check engine light (for various codes), the one thing you will notice is the extremely low idle, and when you're cruising/coasting to a stop, and you push the clutch in, the RPM's will just die, really quickly!!
It's because the computer doesn't know to keep the RPM's up higher (the M6 program anticipates and compensates for the sudden no-load condition of pushing the clutch in).
You can drive the car as long as you like this way, but things just aren't "100%", that's all!

well i am now worried because my tranny seems to only be going into 1 and 2 not getting into third or 4th. i think i am just going to do it in my driveway and call it a day do it all at my house test it once i test it send the pcm out to pcmforless or just get the cables and do it myself
you will be fine.. the car will drive fine and you probably wont even get an SES light depending on the year of the car.. ive done this in two cars, a stock 94' then a stock 95' and since then the 95' has been throught a total transformation and is currently a 385ci 500+hp procharged beast and is still running on an A4 tune, Then one in it right now is an ed wright mail order that i got when i bought my blower from a friend and i drive it every day... So yea you will be fine for as long as need be, you just wont have a speedo
You'll typically see them going anywhere from $1200 for just a tranny to $2000+ for a complete swap, and some swaps are more complete than others.
900 for the tranny alone 150 on the bell housing 50 on the flywheel plus 40 for machine shop 218 for the clutch kit (new) 100 for the cylinders 40 for the shifter (stock) with **** still looking for the cover for the clutch inspection plate. and i forgot how much i spent on the arp flywheel bolts but my total is
1398, i got lucky i don't need the petals since my car was a manual before hand
o and i can't forget the 40 i spent on pigtails for the t56 tranny to the wiring harness

good deal I spent around 1900
but I got a pro 5.0/ short stick/ sidewinder **** and all gm pigtails everything works down to the reverse lockout and cruise
but now the clutch that came with the kit may have broken a spring or 2 and have to replace that now.
