hmm, well its been a couple weeks and I've been able to do nothing so far. I don't want to get the car towed anywhere until I know where I'm gonna get the work done. I am in Oakland, CA does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do next? How much does a new 4L60E cost, is it worth doing a rebuild as opposed to just putting a new one in. If frank from alltrans can rebuild my tranny to be strong enough for the kind of HP he was talking about, should I expect to find someone to rebuild my tranny for less than 1k?

Another thing I was wondering...a few weeks before a friend of mine was helping me with my car and I was thinking about it later(wasn't paying that much attention at the time) but it seems to me like its possible thathe jacked the car up from under the flat part on the bottom of the tranny...its hard to tell what you are supposed to be jacking on under the front. I didn't notice any problems for a couple weeks of driving but is it possible that this could cause this problem? I am not even sure if he jacked it up on the tranny or not or how to tell...cant even get my jack under the side of my car without rolling it onto something.

Any help appreciated.

A new one, I believe would cost a little around $2k, maybe more, definately go for the rebuild!

He is definately correct, around $1000 rebuild here, from most all reputable shops (here in VA keep in mind) would mean a tranny rebuild w/ nice shift kit and a good converter, buddy of mine had a '94 Z28 that cost him $900 for it, skreech second at 3200RPMs.

That'd help if you're referring to the trans. pan!

Help me out now guys, but I've heard you can smash a pan and drive around on it for a little while till it starves the tranny of fluid... correct??

Well, easy... take a jack, put it right up underneath where your front fender comes down behind the front wheel, tuck the jack up underneath there (jacking point), put the side of the car in the air, and see if where your buddy jacked it up at, that round flat surface has a bunch of bolts going around the side of it and what appears to be a gasket/seal around the flat surface... and if it has heavy indentions or gouges in it... he sure did you a favor

Hope I've been of some help... my info could be wrong however

sounds like the sun shell (bad problem with 4l60E as well as 700r4) only thing to do is put it in the air and make sure its not a driveline or your rear end yoke came loose but other than that you need to remove the trans and have it rebuilt
