Re: A4 Oil and filter change how to ?

If you just want to drop the pan and replace the filter..... Get a filter kit(filter/pan gasket) for a 4L60E trans and 5 quarts of Dexron III.... The pan has 17 bolts( if I remember right), When removing the bolts start in one corner, you want the pan at an angle for the fluid to pour out.... Take your time taking out the bolts, or you will have a big mess... Allow the fluid to drain slowly from the pan angle into an oil pan...

There will still be fluid in the pan once removed, so keep it level when removing the last couple of bolts... Clean the pan with carb/brake cleaner, scrape off any gasket material and allow to dry...

The filter is pressed in and easy to remove and replace....

If you look at the new gasket, you will see 4-5 holes alittle smaller than the others.. This is for holding bolts in place when replacing the pan and it keeps the gasket in place... DO NOT use silicone....

This procedure does not replace all of the fluid, since transmissions hold about 10-12 quarts...

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. You put the fluid in where the tranny dipstick is.. Pour in 3 quarts, start engine, allow to warm, shift thru gears, place back in park, check level(while engine is running), if fluid is needed then stop engine, add fluid(if needed), and go thru the it again until correct fluid level is achieved...
