A4 Broken

I recently upgraded my rear lower control arms to prevent diff hop.
This mod worked well & launching under stress did not produce any hop.
Then the rear Gearbox mounting failed - repaired
Now the A4 only engages park & reverse - no forward drive in any gear.
I have checked the fluid levels , shifter cable & the arm moving the selector shaft. Next I will remove the converter cover & oil pan.

The car is 1994 Camaro 5.7 V8

PLEASE HELP
Any advice on how to fault find & repair the problem will be much appreciated

Thanks
Patrick

If the car will go in reverse but has no forward gears. You have and internal transmission issue.

Most likely the aluminum forward piston has cracked. This is a pretty common problem with the 4L60E transmission. It's the reason we upgrade to steel pistons in the input drum. If you need anything, please feel free to give me a call. 302-250-1202

Do I need to remove the gearbox to install the piston ?
What is the cost of a steel piston ?
Are there any other parts required for this upgrade ?

Thanks for your help so far

Yes, the transmission has to come out. Most likely, the forward clutches will need to be replaced as well. To completely update the transmission, we install the steel 3-4, forward, and over-run pistons and the 2 associated spring packs. The cost of the kit is right around $50.
You'll also need a spring compressor to get the drum apart. It'll also require a pair of 90* snap ring pliers, a lip seal tool, metric sockets, and a flat screwdriver. To put the transmission back together, you'll need a pump gasket, pump o-ring, servo cover o-ring, and a pan gasket. I'd suggest getting a new set of 3-4 clutches and steels, as well as a new 2-4 band. Both will probably be worn. I'd really suggest changing the filter, too.
