96' A4 2.73's - Won't downshift at WOT
I've been chasing problems with this car since I got it. Had to work out bugs in the ignition and fuel system...new opti, plugs, wires, fuel pump, etc.
Now, the car runs a LOT better, but it won't downshift if you're running over 2K RPM's in any gear. If you're running under 2K and push the gas all the way, the car downshifts and takes off.
I'm thinking detent/kick down cable needs adjusted, but? The tranny was rebuilt and has a shift kit. This was before I bought it, so I don't know much about the tranny.
Any suggestions?

i'm also wondering if maybe when the last tranny was put in if they re-adjusted the detent cable. I'm gonna go try that before anything else.

Um...'The '93 F-Body is the only 4th gen with a TV cable. '94-'02 are electronocally controlled. You may have something stuck in the valve body, or possibly a throttle postion sensor.
Are you getting any "SES" lights?
To properly diagnose it, I'd have to drive it with a scanner on it to watch the data parameters.
