94 z28 tranny

Is it true that the 94 tranny's are one of a kind and you need to use the tranny from another 94 for it? I thought all 4l60's would work in it. my buddy needs a tranny asap for his 94 and we have a few local deals but nothing from a 94. any help would be great

Not to my knowledge. 94 through 02 should share the same 4L60E.

Yes, the '94 is specific. '93's still have 700R4 (4L60), '94's use the 4L60E, but it uses an off/on torque converter lock up system. '95 went to the PWM lock up system, which uses an extra solenoid on the valve body. PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) means the PWM solenoid pulses the lock up, instead of it coming on all at once. '95 through '97 are interchangeable. '98 came the 2 piece case, for the LS1.
