94 A4 Tranny problem (missing 2nd)

Hello everyone,
I have a 94 Z28 w/ an automatic transmission and nearly 175,000 miles. It is only driven 1-2 times/week, but the last time I took it out it seemed like I was missing 2nd gear! It would stay in first way too long (5000-7000 rpm) before shifting quickly through 2nd to 3rd. If I manually put it in 2nd, it is almost like its in neutral.
Any ideads or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

PS- If there is so info I am leaving out that might be helpful, please let me know.

time to get rid of it? sounds just like your band is fried, or a seal is broke inside causing internal leakage = no pressure on the servo, if it happened all the sudden and wasnt gradual like slipping 2nd, slipping then finally no 2nd, maybe the band anchore or something is missing, idk, just some ideas but that should narrow it down, could also be something wrong with the servo assembly, id take it off and rebuild it, wont cost a whole lot hope that helps.

Mine did the exact same thing.
I lost 2nd gear, had 1st 3rd and 4th but second would be like nuetral.
I don,t want to be the bearer of bad news but when my tranny builder opened it up there was all kinds of worn and broken parts, he could not believe it was still moving the car.

I had it rebuilt for 750 with some beefed internals and a new TCI converter and its much better than new now.
