Well i have a 93 z28 camaro with 240k on the M6 tranny (lol). Anyway now to the point. Well when i pull out in first sometimes it will break out of first VERY roughly and make a very loud booming noise followed by grinding. I have to wait at least 30 seconds before i can put it back in gear otherwise it just grinds. Also the second gear synchro is slowly going out. If i shift from first over ~3000 rpm second gear will grind a bit.

Now my question is, will this cause any damage to the motor, and is it worth rebuilding?

Should i just buy a new transmission?

anyway, is it popping out of first due to a synchro problem or something more?

 

Ive have a 93Z every tranny guy i went to except for one told me to not rebuild it and get a used 94-97 6speed or buy one thats from a 94-97 rebuilt. The tranny is weak, now unless your driving around town hardly ever race it and have regular bolt ons meaning exhaust and intake then its your call if you wanna stick with it. Otherwise just telling you what my tranny guy told me, either way i went with a used 95 Z 6speed tranny came out cheaper for me.

 

thanks for the reply man, hey thats probably what ill end up doing... i must of got a good t56 or something because it has lasted soooooo long and im proud of it. However i guess its time for it to be trashed



I plan on driving this car until i can find a very sexy WS6 with t tops or a decent priced z06 so it might be awhile
