9" questions..

Okay. Just blew thru another ****ty GM 10 bolt... Im done with this crap!

Want to drop a 9" with 4.11's in the backof my SS. Need to know if the 9" setup you can get from Moser or Strange is indeed the same type of 9" setup the old Ford Pickups had... and if you can take an old 9" out of one of those pickups and put it under an F body... Might be a far stretch, but if it saves some money then it might be worth a shot too.

Re: 9" questions..

Moser is about the closest thing to a bolt-in assembly. Strange doesn't have a 9in for us. I'm in the same boat as you. Just blew 10-bolt number four on DRs.

Good info in this thread...Click

Re: 9" questions..

The "9-inch" is basically a "Ford 9-inch". The known weak points, like the axle welds to the housing are corrected. You could take an old 9-inch out of a truck, but you would have to:

-add a torque arm mount
-transfer all old 10-bolt brackets to 9-inch
-have it narrowed if it was too wide
-add a posi or a spool if it didn't come with one
-get the gear ratio of your choice if it didn't come with it
-rebuild the entire rear
-figure out how to mount the brakes

By the time you got done, you probably would have spent a similar amount of $$$$. There is someone who converts the Ford 8.8-inch (Mustang) rears to mount in a 4th Gen, for low $$$$ though.
