6 speed swap
6 speed swap
i just bought a 93z 6 speed car and i want to do a 6 speed swap in my 94z.. just wondering if that 6 speed will work for my car..i wanna switch mine bc my car looks way better than that car and i dont want to have to fix it up if u are wondering why im doing it...and ive always wanted a 6 speed and i got it at a really good deal and plus it came with a new clutch...any help will be appreciated
Re: 6 speed swap
The only differences between a 93 T56 and a 94-97 T56 are the gear ratios, the rated torque capacity and the absence of the "skip shift" feature on the 93. Here is the info on the differences between the two versions of the T56 used in the 93 models, and the single version used from 94-97. 98-02 is the same as 94-97 with regard to gear ratios, but has differences in the input shaft length, and the method of mounting the hydraulic slave cylinder.

Re: 6 speed swap
It will bolt up and function fine. The 94 PCM will be looking for the skip shift solenoid, and the 93 T56 does not have Skip Shift. Simple workaround is to put a 2,000 ohm resistor in the T56 harness, or across the pins of the PCM.
You will have to have the PCM flashed with a manual trans program, wire up the clutch safety switch, the reverse lockout solenoid and the backup light switch on the T56. The 93 T56 VSS sensor may be different than a 94 sensor. I'm not sure on that point.

Re: 6 speed swap
cool, thanks for the info...one more question...my uncle wants to buy the 93 from me but wants to put a automatic in it..what trans wit work for that car? i know my 94 trans wont...i have been told a 700r4 will work but does it need to come out of a camaro that year or will other cars work fine? and does he need anything other than the trans?
thanks

Re: 6 speed swap
2WD 700-R4 from a non-vette application. 93-down cars, 92-down trucks.
The smart thing to do is mount the torque arm separate on a new crossmember.
The stock thing to do is get a Camaro tailhousing.
and he'll need to get the right reluctor / VSS parts.
