The 4th Gen Corvettes used ZF 6-speeds, not the Borg-Warner T56. Different trans, made in Germany. Similar gear ratios, and had the skip-shift feature used on the T56 from 94 up.

i know im kinda bringing this up from the past, but..

yes they are interchangable. I just put in a T56 in my '94 Z28. The T56 came out of an '93 Z.

Now the speedo is off and i think because the gearing is different.

Oh well, just send it out to Ion.

^^^ it is different

Q: What are the stock transmission gear ratios and torque capacities?

A: The following were available by year:

Year Model/Optn 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th Final
---- ------------- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- -----
1993 Manual/M28 3.36 2.07 1.35 1.00 0.80 0.62 2.73 (GU2)
1993 Manual/M29 2.97 2.07 1.43 1.00 0.80 0.62 3.23 (GU4)
1993 Auto/MX0 3.06 1.63 1.00 0.70 -- -- 2.73 (GU2)
1993 Auto/MX0 3.06 1.63 1.00 0.70 -- -- 3.23 (GU5)

1994 Manual/MN6 2.66 1.78 1.30 1.00 0.74 0.50 3.42 (GU6)
1994 Auto/MX0 3.06 1.63 1.00 0.70 -- -- 2.73 (GU2)
1994 Auto/MX0 3.06 1.63 1.00 0.70 -- -- 3.23 (GU5)

The '95s and later have the same ratios as the '94s. Aside from the CAGS provision and different gearing/input shaft (on the post 93's), all of the 6-speed transmissions are basically the same.

I think he was asking if the ZF 6-speed would interchange with the T56. I think the clutch would have to be swapped as well, since the T56 used in the LT1 F-Bodies used the "pullback" clutch design.

The fact that the 93 T56 has different tranny gear ratios, and the fact that the 93 M6's came with different rear axle ratios is not what is producing the error in your speedo. Its a difference in the output pulses/mile on the VSS sensor. Was you 94 originally a T56 or a 4L60E?

The problem would be the number of teeth on the reluctor gear on the tranny tailshaft. I believe jagsthatrun.com has info on how to correct the problem.
