4L60E whining tranny problem

Hi I just wondered if anyone know what was causing my whine problem in park and neutral. If you just start up the car cold it's fine it goes through all gears fine but if you put it in neutral or park it will whine. it desn't seem to affect the performance of the transmission just an annoying and embarrasing whine when you put it back in park. If you wait a while after you've shut the car off and let it cool over 1 hr you can start it up and no whine again. Tried replacing the valve body and seperator plate and checked the passages on the other side of seperator plate for buildup and didn't see anything. any ideas?

Probably because you post on the wrong forum. LT1 Based Engine Tech is only for "engine" questions. I'll move your post to "Drivetrain". There are several 4L60E experts who can help you.

Most likely you're hearing signs of an early transmission or torque converter bearing failure.

When you had the pan off, did you see any metalic debris in it?

not anything real big just the normal bit of fine stuff on the magnet. but if it was a torque converter or tranny shouldn't it do that all the time? or atleast show signs when shifting?

You're taking the load off of everything in Park and Neutral. I've seen converters act like this.

so is the converter on it's way out or just being noisy. I've been running the car for a couple weeks now it doesn't seem to be getting worse but still there, and no effect on the rest of it's performance. Then my question returns of why doesn't it do it all the time when I start it up only after I've gone through gears. Then once I park it will make the noise until I shut it off and it cools down. Very strange to me.
