4l60E vs TH350/TH400

I have been having bad luck with my 4L60E, finding a good builder, looking at prices, etc, and a starting to consider a 350 or 400.

What is the difference in top speed between the two. I know it depends on the gearing and rpms, and I won't be visiting and lake beds to make top speed runs, but I am wondering. How would you find this out? Also, what would the rpm be like with 3.23 gears at ~70 mph vs a 4l60E?

I have a TH350 in mine and top is around 150 I would guess there is plenty there. As for the tach at 70 mine ran about 3200.

why not? if you dont mind me asking?

because a TH350 is has about the same capability as a 700 or 4L60E , the only reason that you see allot of 350's is because they have been around for ever and most transmission shops have had ample time to figure out how to build them . but a good builder can build you a 4L60E to handle anything that a TH350 can.

I have had some seriouse problems with Frank. Besides, he's not doing transmissions anymore from what he has told me, or at least he isn't doing mine because he sent me it back, undone, 2 months late.

Re: 4l60E vs TH350/TH400

With 3.23's and a 26" tire, the 4L60E will be running 2,034rpm in O/D. Since neither the TH350 or the TH400 has O/D, they would be turning 2,923rpm under the same conditions. You have to love the buzz of high rpm's to run a "THxxx".....

With street tires and 4.10's, my TH400 (non-locking converter) was running 3,900rpm at 70MPH.... hence the addition of the Gear Vendors O/D to bring it down closer to 3,000.

Let's add in the fact that I sent your transmission back on my "dime". I've posted on here about the problems we had with losing the garage we were working out of. Most people seemed to understand. Unfortunately, yours was one of the two that were held in limbo, while we searched for another garage. Unfortunately, nothing worked out in the time frame you needed your transmission back in.

I'm not trying to make excuses, but I was also going through alot of other problems at the time. I was faced with losing my girlfriend during that time. Anyone who's ever cared about anyone as much as I care about her may understand. No, I know it wasn't "professional', but when something like that happens, you sometimes lose sight of everything else around you.

Getting back to the issue of your transmission. Yes, I had it for a little over a month. I was hoping to find a garage, and get things back up and running during that time. When you called me and told me you needed it back, because you were moving, I volunteered to pay to ship it back to you, which I did. You seemed so appreciative on the phone about me paying for it, but you forgot to mentioned that in your post?! Exactly how did I do you wrong? I never lied to you about anything. I was involved in 2 bad situations that I had no control over. When you make a statement like "I've had serious problems with Frank", you better tell the whole story!

My issue was the HUGE lack of communication. You did send it back on your dime, but you ALSO said you would send it back on your dime before you even knew about the move. We didn't even find out about the job offer (reason for moving) till AFTER you said you would ship it back(we didn't even move, better job offer was found in town), and that you weren't doing transmissions (what you said to me). Why would it stay there longer if you said to me that you are done with CPT? You may be trying to save it now, but you TOLD ME that you aren't doing transmissions anymore. There would be no REASON for my transmission to be there if you weren't doing CPT anymore. THAT is why you shipped it back, not because of me. You weren't answering any of my calls OR returning my phone calls. I just wanted to touch base, and I gave you PLENTY of time to do so. I wouldn't call you till 2 to 3 weeks AFTER you said you would call me. That was my issue. It took you so long to get in contact with me that I wouldn't have been able to get it in anyways! It arrived a day before the 19th. If I knew my transmission was actually going to get worked on, I would have been fine with a wait, and probably would have settled to pay the extra $45 to keep my car in the garage for another month, and comute back to Fargo just to work on my car. Yes you sent it back, and paid for it, but it was NOT because I was moving, it was because you said you were done with CPT.

Yes, you went through two tough problems, but when it comes down to it, all I wanted was a phone call. I wasn't calling you every day, or hounding you, and I waited very patiently for weeks after you said you would call me. When, twice, you go NEARLY a month, with my transmission, without communication, with plenty of attempts to contact you, that is a serious issue, Frank. That fault is on you.

I did nothing wrong, I didn't ask for anything extreme, hell, I didn't even want to bring it to the board. I even deleted a post about this, just because I didn't want it to make you sound bad because I knew you have it tough right now, and didn't want to give you any bad press incase you started up your shop again.

This ay be a ONE time case. This is the REASON I chose you, because I HATE BS like this, and you have a perfect track record and so many happy people with your trans. This could just be a freak occurence, but this whole experience just makes me sick of cars, and sick of working on cars.

EDIT: Also, remember, I had to pay money to ship it too, you aren't the only one who lost out on this experience.

Re: 4l60E vs TH350/TH400

frank i understand what happened with you and all...i believe in your transmissions and ive hardly come acros any1 that is still as nice and willing to help ect. when it comes to helping people like you do. Most adults ive encountered are not willing to even talk to a 20 19 18 17 yr old about a car, how to fix or anything about it...this guy oblivously is not satisfied and posted it on another board ls1tech here
http://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=543976

ive read thisb story and i feel bad for the guy but i feel that you did right as much as you could...on another note frank paid my shipping costs (125 bux) for my tranny when there was no problem or nothing at all...it was just more than we thought it would be to ship it, for me taking my tranny there he paid it, no questions asked...and i got my tranny built in about 8 days i think...im very satisfied with his work and him and i reccomend him all the time...also his tranny has been great holding up without a hiccup in about 10k miles

Thanks, Daniel. This just goes to prove tht you can't keep everyone from whining about something that I had no control over.

How DARE you comprimise MY sale of my transmission. You know DAMN WELL it runs just fine. The ONLY reason I sent it to you is because I WANTED AN UPGRADE! WE EVEN DISCUSSED THIS ON THE PHONE!!!! You were not competent enough to do so, so you send back my "Good working order" transmission. YOU DO NOT KNOW THE WORKING ORDER OF MY TRANSMISSION, SO YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO COMMENT ON IT!!!!

Also, YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO GIVE OUT MY FULL NAME AND WHERE I LIVE (Ls1tech)!! You are a board sponser for christe sake! START ACTING LIKE ONE!!!

Also, yes, I knew damn well what was going on. You explained it to me very clearly, but that DOES NOT JUSTIFY your actions. If I don't receive contact for months at a time, how the HELL am I supposed to expect to get my transmission back?

Also, I too would like to talk to jason, letting him know that one of his sponsers is giving out personel information of one of his board members, lying to ppotential buyers of my transmission, and lying over and over again just to keep his good name.

I am truelly a really nice guy. It take a lot to get me this upset, but Frank crossed the line. I have a perfect track record on this forum. I also have a perfect track record with buying/selling on this forum.

I honestly can't beleive I am getting any of this from you frank. Why can't you come clean?

Also, I never asked you to build it in your living room, I just wanted it back.
