4L60E/TH400 info

Read the stickies. Didn't find the info I was looking for. Want a write up, or directions to info about these trannies. What is a "built" 4L60E? How much do these trannies cost (W/ general install cost range if possible)? What fails on the 4L60E? P.S. Will my 4L60E hold up to 450hp? It's a dd, and I drive it rather modestly. No track visits, no canyon carving(too many speeding tickets), etc..I've got a vig2800. Tranny cooler and shift kit(will they help?) My trans seems fine now. Hard shifts ever since the stall and tune. Is that bad? Sorry for all the rookie ?s. Thanks!

The sticky,"What broke in my 4l60E?" should answer atleast 4 of you're 6 questions there. Not trying to be a bastard, but when you say you've read the stickies and didn't find what you were looking for...then ask "what fails on the 4L60E?" when there's the most comprehensive write-up in regards to said failures I've ever seen on this board (with pictures even)...my best advice is read them again.

Re: 4L60E/TH400 info

Yup, the sticky should help, that's what it's there for A stock 4L60E is not going to last long with 450hp, unless you never use the 450hp! And in spite of your saying about how modestly you drive it, I assume that if you want 450hp that isn't always true.

There are a couple of vendors on this board who know a lot about the 4L60E. They have posted to the sticky thread. I suggest you start with them. The TH400 swap is for hard core drag cars with big hp. The TH400 does not have an overdrive ratio and this seriously compromises the car for street use.

Re: 4L60E/TH400 info

Yes, one of our "Race/"Pro Race" 4L60E's will hold up to your HP level just fine. We have them behind MUCH more HP. Our "Race" unit goes for $1000. Our "Pro Race" unit goes for $1400. The difference between the 2 is that the "Pro Race" has a 4L65E hardened output shaft and front support, as well as a steel input piston set. These are normally geared toward cars pulling 1.7 or lower 60 ft. times. Our units are built with the best parts, and build techniques in the industry. I've been building Race 700R4's (4L60E predecessor) since 1989, and 4L60E's since they came out in 1993. We've tried everything in these transmissions. We know what works and what doesn't. We know what's hype and what's reality.

BTW, Don't worry...We were all "Rookies" once
