4L60E to T-56 swap
4L60E to T-56 swap
I put a 95 LT1/4L60E in my 71 Nova a few years ago. I am now contemplating swapping to a T56.
What issues am I going to run into with the computer/harness/programming? Is it as simple as unplugging the trans connector and loading a .bin from a manual car?
I'm also wondering what 4L60 may be worth and if anyone is interested in it or has a T56 and wants to sell/trade. The trans is out of a 95 Z28, it was pulled with about 43000 and I have put about 10,000 on it. I changed convertors to a 3000 stall Precision Industries Vigilante in the summer of 06.

You also have to do some wiring for the reverse lights and reverse lockout. I still haven't figured out how to correctly wire my reverse lockout so if anyone has that info feel free to post it. You also have to put in pedals from a 6-speed car and drill a hole for the master cylinder. There's probably some more stuff I'm leaving out but its been ~3 years since I did the swap.
lt1nova, your 4L60E sadly isn't worth much. I've been trying to sell mine for a while now, but no bites. Worth about $400 to $500. The converter will be worth around $300 or $400.
As for swapping, I believe you have to get a different tail section with the linkage moved forward. If you use a T56 out of an F-body, the linkage will sit too far back in the tranny tunnel. You will also have to get your tunnel either refabbed or bang it out some to fit the tranny. I believe Super Chevy did an article on it, try searching on Google. Plus, you will have to fab up a different shifter, I believe that was in the article as well.
speed_demon24, reverse lockout is very easy. Since your car is OBD2, the wires for the correct pins on the PCM connectors already exist in the auto harness, its just a matter of splicing into them. Just bear with me while I explain it...
You need to first pull off the black plastic clip for the wire shielding on the big A4 connector. If you look real close at where the wires enter the connector on the back, you will see letters designating each wire. First, find pin U (should be a brown wire) and cut it a few inches away from the connector. Then find pin E (should be pink). Note there are 2 pink wires, only one of them is hot power. Make sure you get the right one! Then splice your reverse lockout pigtail in. It really doesn't matter how, but the diagram shows pink goes to B, brown goes to A. The pins should be labeled on the pigtail. Good luck with it!
