4L60E electronics question
4L60E electronics question
ok ive been lookin and pokin around here and there and was wanderin if it was possible to delete the tranny program from the pcm and still use the 4l60e with some kind of switch that u can use to tell it when to shift, like the computer does but without holding it back for a second or two. my dad did this with a 700r4 once awhile back, and i was just curious if anyone made anything that would allow the trans to still work without the pcm controlling it. mainly wandering because the 700r4 shifted a LOT better without the pcm controlling it, he had a switch hooked up for o/d but i havent gotten any other details out of him =/
for those who dont wanna read ramblings... is it possible to run 4l60e without pcm trans program?

Re: 4L60E electronics question
a 4l60e is a 700r4 that is electronically shifted, there is no 700r4 that is computer controled so not sure what you dad did. But maybe one of the builder that frequent this section can shed light on that! I just know that all the 4l60e is, is an electronic 700r4, for the most part! Some other things have also changed over the years, but for the most part they are the same trans.
Re: 4L60E electronics question
There is no way to operate a 4L60E without a computer. A 700R4 is a governor/hydraulically shifted transmission, so it doesn't require a computer for anything other than lock-up strategy for the torque converter. Even at that, you can make a 700 lock-up without a computer, though.
A 60E uses the computer to control the shift soleniods, EPC solenoid (pressure), 3-2 downshift solenoid, and lock-up. If you unplug a 60E, it'll shoot to max line pressure and go into "fail safe", which is 3rd gear starts.

Re: 4L60E electronics question
I believe you can convert it to a full-manual control-Trans go makes a kit i believe. I'd just get a 700R4 though.....expecially if you are going to want to make some big power later.
