4L60E advice
4L60E advice
Pulling away from a stop sign last night my transmission would not engage! I pulled up in drive and stopped, but then when I pressed the gas to go, it slipped and rolled backwards a little. It then softly engaged, got me the rest of the way home. When I got home, it would do the same thing as I was jocking it around in the driveway. 1st and R both take up to 5 seconds to engage.
What just broke and what should I do? I'll call the local tranny shop this morning but should I push for a 4L80E or try to get a rebuilt 4L60E? Thanks a million as I really have no tranny experience. The tranny and engine should be the original pair from 1994 with 225k.

Sounds like you lost sealing rings or evn pump is failing ,But with 225000 miles I would not complain. Theres little point to doin a 4l80e for your car unless you plan on making upwards near 800 hp and its exspensive. I would rebuild or replace the unit with a built one, We have a special this weekend you may want to check out on our website.
Its always taken a little bit of time shifting between R and D. Maybe the pump has been failing for a while.
The local shop says $2000-2600 depending on the problem. I also need to get the car there! At that price I might just buy a newer camaro. I see 94-96's go for around that price....

Why not just get a good performance-built transmission and be done with it? My tranny just went out recently and have opted for a hi-perf tranny and TC.
Buy new one for parts, then scrap it. I've gone through a couple cars like that. Thats how I got my LT1 3rd gen. I have a house with some property so its no big deal.
I just don't want to spend 1400 on a car that I'm not totatlly happy with anyway. T-tops leak, interior is hagard thanks to that. Its fun, but I'm not going to every buy new heads or bottom end so going the hy-po route just doesn't make sense.

It sounds like the pump. If you're looking for the best price and DEFINTELY the best transmission, click the link below, or just give me a call. 302-250-1202. We offer the best prices, transmissions, and reputation.
If you want to know anything about our reputation, please feel free to type "CPT" into the search box. We also welcome you to do the same for our competitors (if you can find any customer feedback about them). You'll also notice that our regular prices are still better than some others "sale" prices.

What is different between the years of 4L60E's? They don't have a used 94 in the area but they have 96 and 97. Are these compatible with my 94? i'm suspecting that they will be due to the OBDII changeover.
I'm a pretty honest guy and would never sell anything with crap parts without telling the buyer.

No, they're not interchangeable. The reason you'll have a hard time finding a used transmission is because only a '94 will fit a '94. They're a "stand alone" year. It's the only year GM used a non PWM 4L60E in an F-Body.

Thats not cool. So what about the transmissions you guys have for sale? Do you have 94 specific? Or 97+ only? I'm thinking that I would have to send it to you to have it rebuilt cause you wouldn't have a core there.
I drove the car around last night to see if I could describe the problem a little better. It acts like it doesn't have enough pressure to engage correctly. Starting from nuetral and shifting to R or D, it freewheels then slowly engages. Takes about 5 seconds to fully engaged then its fine. I kept the rpm at 3k, and it acts exactly like you were slowly engaging the clutch on a manual car.
Also, manually shifting from 2nd to 1st on the shifter will not make it downshift. Going WOT will kick it down from 2nd to 1st. Does it still sound like the pump?
