4:10 Gears is it worth it ??

I have a 94 camaro z28 6 speed. I wanted to put 4:10 gears in my car but is it worth the money. Will it throw me back into the seat hard??? It makes a tremendous difference??? - Please let me know I looking that neck snapping feel. Also could I go higher then a 4:10 and still be street drivable?? - Mike. Also anybody thats has a 6 speed with 410 gears what gear does first feel like. when your in second or third?? - MIKE

...I was debating the same things when I got my gear...I kinda feel sorry that I got it simply for the fact that I'm putting 1500-2000 miles a month on my car....6th gear rocks because it helps haul. Think of it this way....you know how your at 90mph when your at 2200 RPM's....well with a 4.10 your at 65MPH at 2200 RPM's... Hell at this point I'm kinda ready to spend the money to put my stock gear back in....****ing too much gas guzzling going on...you also lose like 10-12 **** power.....but maintain torque pretty good...because it gets you to higher RPM's quicker. 1st gear is like 18MPH...close to redline....then shift to second closer to 27MPH at redline...then 3rd closer to like 40 at redline....and then 6th you can go 35MPH at 1500RPM's....to save gas..... If you want some ***** yet not kill your gas....then play with a 3.73....if you don't care about it at all....then it's awsome....it will throw you in your seat....you just have to be the fastest shifter on the planet....and you'll be happy.... Lemme know if your interested in a 4.10...I am willing to send you mine for like $100 bucks.....has 7k miles on it, I don't even race or rip into my car hard enough to need it... It will be taken out April 19th...

Oh yeah, and it will kick *** on the highway because you won't have to downshift to feel the power of your car.....it just goes....

Dude, to hit close to redline in 3rd(assuming 94+ t56) you need over 8.00 gear. And horsepower has nothing to do with gear ratio.
Here's a simple calc to give you an idea of effect of gears http://www.f-body.org/gears/
M6 with 4.10s in 6th spins less rpm than an auto with 3.23's

I totally disagree with you. I am only turning ~2000 - 2100 in 6th on the freeway at 70 MPH. 1st gear definately is way higher than 18 MPH. And no way are you done with 2nd at 27 MPH and done with 3rd at 40 MPH. Running up to ~6 grand on the factory tach, I hit the beginning of 3rd gear at about 60 MPH.

Anyway, back to reality...

I felt a big difference coming from the 3.42 to a 4.10. It actually feels like my car pulls now. Before I felt like I was standing still. Overall I think it is pretty nice. In city driving I usually just go 1st to 3rd, to 4th. I haven't gotten to the track yet, but next week I am going. It definately feels like it is a lot faster. Be warned though, if you go to get on it hard at low rpms in first you are just going to spin forever. I usually ease into the throttle in first and once it is a little higher up ease into it harder. Then as soon as I bang 2nd I go WOT. I could probably go WOT at the top of first, but I haven't really tried. I think if I put my DRs on for a drive on the street I could get on it a little bit harder sooner...

I spin 1900rpm at 75 with my 4.10s

heres a vid of a WOT blast in my car... other than gears and exhaust its completely stock down to the intake in this video:

Id stay away from 4.10s if you have an auto and its a daily driver that does a lot of highway driving.

They shoulda come stock in 6 speeds though

i went to 4.10's from 2.73 with an auto tranny and i love it. i would probably hate it if i was a highway driver but im never on the highway, but the acceleration is just nuts i felt a Huge differance with the gear swap, however you have to learn how to control that sprint start by easing into it or you will spin have way through 2nd.
wot = spin
easing into then wot =bad a** launch times

How many of you guys have to shift to 5th in the 1/4 with the 4.10s? That is what is keeping me from doing it. Every calc I've seen says about 112 is the most you can get. I'd be past that with a 150 shot (hopefully). Anyone?

i am curious about that too, but i figure you can just get taller slicks just for the strip if you run into that problem

thats the only downfall of the M29, not having that good .50 6th gear :\ or else 4:56's would be in there in a heartbeat

thats my prob, I don't have the .5 6th gear. I used to have the 336 first gear and that SUCKED with 3.73s.
