383/396 owners inside - Q on flywheel balancing

Hey all, I searched around for this topic but could only find a few threads that did not directly answer my question.

Question is: How many of you 383/396 guys (and gals) had your flywheel balanced with the entire rotating assembly? And, how may did not but just slapped on a zero balanced FW?

My 383 is internally balanced, but the shop never asked me for my FW which is an aluminum Fidanza. It's actually pretty smooth until about 75ish on the highway, when the vibrations kick in -- which may be my driveshaft since I installed a different steel one then what I had stock. Are the Fidanzas zero balanced out of the box? Anyone with this FW have any experience?

I have put about 750 miles on the new engine so far, and someone please tell me I will be OK and not mess up my bearings!!

Thanks in advance!

driveshaft vibe is speed-related. engine vibe is rpm-related.

I think you have a driveshaft vibe since you said it starts at 75mph.

IF the motor is internally balanced the shop wouldnt have needed your flywheel, but should have told you that you needed a zero balanced flywheel.

Im not sure about fidanza, but *most* flywheel/flexplates are sold to match the stock counter balance weight of the engine. You need to specify when ordering if you want a zero balanced unit. Best bet is to grab your reciept and call them and ask.

Thanks for the input. Fidanza's come shipped with a weight on the inside - so if I take it off, the FW should be zero-balanced, right? Should I bring it by a shop just to make sure -OR- should I bring it with the clutch and PP so they can zero-balance the combo together?
