3000 stall
stock cam
ok i tried this in drivetrain but no responses. im getting my trans rebuilt with all heavy duty stuff and corvette servos and shift kit. i also have a 3000 stall im getting really cheap. with the stock cam in a 94 z28(full bolt ons/full exhust) would this stall speed be fine? and still be able to be a frequent driver?
Ultimately, stalls and cams dont matter too much, but a stall really has a good effect with gear ratios. If you were to change out ur gears in the rear to anything like a 3.73 or 4.10, a higher stall would really open it up more. With the stock drivetrain (im assuming u dont have a 2.73 gear) then a 3000 stall would be ok. Read the sticky on stalls in Drivetrain if u want to learn more (very good sticky)
Torque converters and cams should match as with other components, depending on application...

As anyone will tell you the cam and converter should match up however i had a 3000 stall on my stock cam car and can tell you it was a blast to drive, when it was loud i would run through town at 35 and slap the gas, the converter would stall out very quickly and scare the **** out of people ha ha thats always a good time, it also really helped with my launches and if you plan on putting a cam in eventually the converter is already there i say go for it.
You got several very good responses on the Drivetrain forum.

i drive it daily for sure the car has 154xxx miles on it and counting, it is a 12 inch converter, be sure to get a converter with lockup, if you do not do so your car will cruise around at stall rpms while highway driving. this of course will result in terrible gas mileage.
It isn't a daily driver, but I put more miles on the camaro than I do on my daily driver because I sometimes drive up to 300 miles to get to a track. The converter didn't hurt the drivability at all, it just made it a lot more fun to drive. The gas mileage was effected though
It was a 9.5" converter.
It was a 9.5" converter.
