3 spd. vs. Glide

How much power would I need to make a glide work well at 3100# and around 650 FWHP.

How long will the glide last with a brake in it?

And last any recomenadtions on where to get one.....if the glide would be too much I will go to a 400. I have a 350 now but I know it will not last very long ( after I put gas on it)

I think you should call Rossler Transmission (http://www.rosslertrans.com/), or whoever you trust more about trannys. They (Rossler) make dynamite 'glides and TH400's. They are about the same price (well, the 400 is a bit more but close enough), so I don't think they have any motive to sell you one over the other. And they are honest anyway. I am pretty sure they are going to advise you to get the 400. I talked with them about a 3,100lb car with close to 1,000hp and they still felt the first gear of the 'glide was too tall to launch hard enough. Remember, a hi-po 'glide is going to have a 1.76:1 first gear. The TH400 is a 2.48/1.48/1.00:1. That gives ~40% more torque multiplication for the TH400. There are other gearsets available for the 'glide, 1.80, 1.87:1, etc. But still a long way from 2.48 and they also create a bigger gap to high. So, I am guessin' the 400 is the way to go, but that's just a guess.

ATI and Coan are other places you might call.

I think your right about the 400 rich. I will call rossler, a fellow racer has one at his shop with 10 passes on it with a 2.75 first(it was too harsh for his car) I will ask them about that also.

In your opinion or anyone elses.....how long would a 350 last behind a low 10 sec car on motor foot braking it?
I know some people getting rossler 350's and only getting 20 passes but they are stockers on the brake. I have 2 converters a 4500 and a 5500....I'm not sure what one to try first. The combo has made several turns during this build

I think deciding between a 350 and a 400 is going to depend on what kind of racing you are doing. The 350 is lighter and has less rotating mass. I bet Carl Rossler could tell you what the weight difference is worth. 0.020-0.030? That's my guess. That would have to be balanced against the cost and hassle of maintainence. To me, if the tranny doesn't last at least a season w/o removing it from teh car, I don't want it. Just don't have the time to be dealing with it on a frequent basis.

Be curious to hear what the rest of you guys think and also what Carl Rossler has to say.

Carl said he can't really say what my 350 would do but his will handle it in a bracket car. Won't last running a .400 tree

So he rec. since I have it everything is mocked up and ready to go to run what I have and see what happens and make adjustments as to what we need from that. I am not running any power adders or a T-brake(thats how it is set up at the moment)

Any more opinions?

Shows what a standup guy he is - didn't try to sell you a tranny.
