Re: 2800 stall or 3:73 gears??

I have heard 5 tenths from a stall. I seemed to gain pretty good from gears though too. My vert ran 15.0 at 94mph with like 2.3 60fts and 2.73 gears and minor bolt ons. Vert is heavy and am at 1700 feet altitude.
I added magnaflow catback and 3.42 and got 14.4s and 14.5s so think the gears gave me 3 tenths or so. I have not gotten to track with the stall ,have vig 2800 but I can tell you that you will get slower on street tires with a stall and likely gears too. I really need nittos now for daily driving and nittos or drag tires at the track.

The stall should give you more gain at the track, but I would still put gears in the car eventually.

Re: 2800 stall or 3:73 gears??

I noticed you have ls1. I would go higher up on stall..like 3500 or mabye a 3200 vig which would likely stall around there. The 2800 is not very noticeable on my lt1 in daily driving with 3.42s and hear the ls1 cars like a bit more stall. The vig don't really require tranny coolers but I put one in anyway.

Shift kit is optional .Again with my vig didn't really think it made the shifts that bad . I can get chirps into second and sometimes third.

Gears for the street, higher stall converter for the track.

Re: 2800 stall or 3:73 gears??

I wont be on the track, maybe once or twice, just want to wake it up on the street. So for street driving gears will be better??? more tracion than a stall??

Re: 2800 stall or 3:73 gears??

A stall is a useless street mod except if you buy nittos. Its only advantage is track use otherwise. The 3.73 will make the car feel much faster but also may not make you actually faster off the line on pure street tires. Nittos are pretty much esential for 3.42 and 3.73s to get better 60fts in my experience.

Re: 2800 stall or 3:73 gears??

Stall yes, gears no.

Stall gives you performance when you want it while retaining cruising on the highway and good gas mileage. Gears are alright around town. Gets rid of the 3rd/4th/3rd/4th shifting nuisance. But ruin the fun of highway driving.

3.23 to 3.73 isn't worth it IMO. Once you get the stall, the gears won't do anything for you.

O.K. Back to the stall, 2800 enough and what str?? Like I said , no other mods, just want to wake it up a bit on the street. Seems like the LS1 really likes to rev.
