1st or not

i just have a quick questions that buggin me....why on my 96 a4 does the shift indicator only indicate 2/d/overdrive....while i see other camaros indicating 1/2/d/overdrive????can i not start out and manually shift 1/2/and 2/1 on mine ...also i'm upgrading to a 99 console and i believe that indicates 1/2/d/overdrive...what gives here???on another note would a b&m megaconsole shifter for a 77r4 with a lil mounting work be able to be used on a 4l60e with the linkage and all

your car came with 2.73 gears which don't have the 1 option stock
if you take an exacto knife you can cut the part where the 1 is supposed to be and it will work (just for some reason, they didn't let you select it unless your car came with 3.23s)
all ls1 autos though (just as a side note) had the 1st gear selection

the cars does have the 323's though not the 273's

Someone obviously swapped the gears, 'cause I doubt that the shifter ever needed to be changed. And yes, it's true that 2.73 geared LS1's have 1st gear available, since that's how my car came, meanwhile, my friend's '96 T/A has 1st gear blocked out (again, 2.73's). Apparently it's simple to fix though. And, you should be glad you've already got the 3.23's in your car.
