1st or not
1st or not
i just have a quick questions that buggin me....why on my 96 a4 does the shift indicator only indicate 2/d/overdrive....while i see other camaros indicating 1/2/d/overdrive????can i not start out and manually shift 1/2/and 2/1 on mine ...also i'm upgrading to a 99 console and i believe that indicates 1/2/d/overdrive...what gives here???on another note would a b&m megaconsole shifter for a 77r4 with a lil mounting work be able to be used on a 4l60e with the linkage and all
Re: 1st or not
your car came with 2.73 gears which don't have the 1 option stock
if you take an exacto knife you can cut the part where the 1 is supposed to be and it will work (just for some reason, they didn't let you select it unless your car came with 3.23s)
all ls1 autos though (just as a side note) had the 1st gear selection

Re: 1st or not
Someone obviously swapped the gears, 'cause I doubt that the shifter ever needed to be changed
. And yes, it's true that 2.73 geared LS1's have 1st gear available, since that's how my car came, meanwhile, my friend's '96 T/A has 1st gear blocked out (again, 2.73's
). Apparently it's simple to fix though
. And, you should be glad you've already got the 3.23's in your car
