1995 M6 Clutch issue

I think this is a hydraulic issue on my 1995 Trans Am M6, but I wanted to get some more opinions. The clutch is acting up in a couple ways:

1) The clutch periodically drops half way down, and then slowly comes back up.

2) When I push the clutch all the way in and start to release the clutch pedal, occasionally the clutch will become fully engaged in only about 1 inch of pedal travel or less. Normal operation is probably 4-5" before the clutch is fully engaged.

Any ideas or suggestions to fix this issue??

Thanks!

No responses because you are in the wrong forum. This is for "engine" tech. Moving to "Drivetrain".

I believe you may have nailed it. I took it to a clutch shop and they said "Slave master cylinder". You say slave cylinder, yet when I look up on gmpartsdirect.com all I see is Master cylinder under the hydraulic clutch section. Which is it? Are they all referring to the same thing?

There is a master cylinder - the cylinder bolted to the firewall that the clutch pedal activates, and a slave cylinder - the hydraulic cylinder bolted to the bell housing, with a pushrod that moves the clutch fork.

Have you checked the hydraulic fluid level in the reservoir for the master cylinder? Have you checked for leaks in the cylinders, or from the braided steet line that connects them?

GM sells the system as a complete assembly - clutch master cylinder, interconnecting line and the clutch slave cylinder. Its a closed system, with no provision for "bleeding" or adjustment of any kind.
