12 Bolt Question?

My buddy has a 12 bolt laying around in his shop and I was wondering what I would have to check to see if it will work in my car. Does anyone have any suggestions/measurements/etc?

Re: 12 Bolt Question?

First thing to look for would be a mount for the torque arm. If it doesn't have one, you've got to make your own.

After that, simply measure the length, face-to-face on the hub flanges, and compare it to the stock assembly in your car.

Might also want to check to see if it has a limited slip differential, and what the gear ratio is.

If its out of a 3rd Gen, its going to be too narrow. If its out of a truck, it isn't going to have a TA mount. If its out of anything but a 3rd Gen or 4th Gen, you need to cut all the mounts off your existing assembly and weld them on the 12-bolt. Then you need to compare the brake mounting plates, to see if they will accept your disc brakes.

Then there's the ABS and TCS provisions. If you only have ABS, the carrier needs a reluctor wheel and the top of the housing needs a hole for the sensor. If you have TCS, you need to have the reluctor wheels relocated to your new 12-bolt axles.

Probably a few other things, but that sould get you started.
