i have a 1993 z28 6-speed 383 stroker. I've added some bolt ons. I'm probably going to install 3.73 gears, would it improve me 0-60 time? and if so, around what time will it improve by? thank you

Depends which T56 trans your 93 has. Is it an M28 or an M29? Affects the selection of the rear axle ratio, because of the difference in 1st gear ratios. And the 93 T56's are different than the 94-02 versions, with different gear ratios.

As you can see, the M28 and M29 have different rear axle ratios as well.

The RPO codes (M28 or M29), are listed on the service parts label, in the glove box, the console, or on the end of the driver side door. You will also find the rear axle ratio codes, GU2 for 2.73:1 gears, or GU5 for 3.23:1.
There is also a website where you can enter the VIN and get a complete list of RPO codes, paint and interior codes, and the build date for your car. There is a small fee.

0-60 times are hard to predict and even harder to make consistent without a plethora of electronic aids. If you look at any manual car that does a sub 4 second 0-60 you will see that they all do it in 1st gear so there is no shifting involved to slow them down.

And therein lies the crux of the problem... is 0-60MPH time so important to you that you want to gear the car specifically based on 0-60MPH?Originally Posted by 97WS6SCharged

Logically, you want the car to cross the 1/4-mile finish line in 4th gear, near max RPM..... unless you are strictly a stoplight racer.
You haven't mentioned your car's weight, RPM redline, or HP. All of those are going to affect the performance. And, do you have tires that provide the traction you will need to optimize 0-60MPH performance?
