Drag Racing Technique Improve your track times

Wish I had a auto, do I have no hope with the m6 to reach 11's?

To the OP what times and mph do you run now on motor? That will give us an indication of how well you're driving the car. Include 60' times too. FWIW I went 2 tenth slower when I switched to auto from M6.

Both the autos and manuals have their pluses and minuses for drag racing. However, I race in several NHRA series (Summit Bracket Series primarily) and the ratio of automatics to standard transmissions at those races are about 100 to 1, possibly even greater (100 autos to one standard).

Consistency and reliability are probably the two greatest attributes of the auto over a standard for drag racing. Next is the ability to pre-load the drive-train with the converter for great reaction times and consistent launches.

I still have a 4L60E in my LTX Camaro, but the P/G with 1.98 straight-cut first gear and auto-shifter is both fast and deadly consistent in my tube-chassis Super-Gas car.

I did that when I had the stick shift. I would actually gain ground with the powershift. I was even asked by several people what shift kit I had in the car.

goto a NHRA race, watch stock or superstock and wait for a manual.. There are some really good gear bangers in those classes with some good talent... They sound like autos when they shift.

Not to jack, but what's the optimal rear gear for an M6?? Depends on the cam?

Optimal rear gear depends on your trap speed and rev limit, same as with an auto.

Take your expected trap speed and your rev limit and figure out what gear puts you on the limiter in your 1:1 gear (4th) right as you cross the finish. Some guys like to be banging off the limiter for the last 50-100 feet; if you're one of those, round up from ideal to the nearest available ratio. If you'd rather not bounce off the limiter, round down.
