When is a Roll Bar Required?

Is it 12.0 and faster you need a roll-cage? I just want to make sure, cause that will decide where i go from here? Guess i'm done at the track soon I really think they should lower the regulation to like 11.0 and faster. I just don't want a roll-bar in this car. What do they do when you break it for the first time? you get a warning?

I think it's still 11.99 and faster for a 5 point roll bar... 9.99 or faster than 135mph and you need a 10-point cage.

They do have a new rule for this year that faster than 11.49 needs a roll bar ~ but I've interpreted that as the quicker "stock" cars. Vs. our modded ones. Doesn't seem fair, but that's what I got out of it. A roll bar isn't that big of a hassle really.

I believe it is 11.49 and faster you need the roll bar if you don't have any forced induction/nitrous that didn't come stock on the car. If you added a blower or nitrous, think then it might still be 11.99, not positive though.

Re: When is a Roll Bar Required?

To my knowledge NHRA is still 11.99 and IHRA is only 11.49 unless you have a convertible.

IHRA has updated their rollbar/cage requirements for 2005 especially concerning T-top cars. NHRA rules are not much different.

As for what they'll do if you break the rule, Lets say you have no rollbar/cage. You go out and run a 11.20. They'll tell you to go home and don't come back until you get the proper safety equipment. Many tracks will refuse you your timeslip if you do something like that. That prevents you from trying a one time hit just to get that fast timeslip without the proper equipment.

NHRA Adjustment to E.T. requirements

Beginning Jan. 1, 2005, a roll bar and an SFI 16.1 driver-restraint system will be mandatory on any vehicle running 11.49 or quicker and for convertibles running 13.49 or quicker. An SFI 3.2A/1 jacket will be mandatory for all drivers in vehicles running between 10.00 to 11.49 seconds. On any car running 11.49 or quicker, a flywheel and clutch meeting SFI Spec 1.1 or 1.2 and a flywheel shield meeting SFI Spec 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, or 9.1 will be mandatory. A driveshaft loop will be required on all cars running 13.99 or quicker and utilizing slicks, except vehicles equipped with street tires running 11.49 or slower.

Re: When is a Roll Bar Required?

so i take it I can run 11.49 without one? I thought i heard that they were changing it, but didn't know. I sure hope it's 11.49, or else i'll be done at the track. Does that same rule work with nitrous?

Re: When is a Roll Bar Required?

It doesn't matter how it is done or how fast (MPH), if you run faster than 11.500 you need a 5-point roll bar as per the NHRA rule book version 2005.

Sometimes track rules are different. Call your local track prior to going.
