Weld Draglite 15x8 rear fitment?

I've got the Draglite 15x8's with 5.5" BS on the way. From reading different things I guess I'm going to have to grind my rear calipers some. Can anyone tell me how much and where they need to be ground down? I'm going to be pressed for time next week to get things ready for a track event next weekend, so it would be very helpful if I had some input on this before jumping in to it.

If I remember correctly mark, you have to grind down the fins on the caliper. The way I did it was I bolted the wheel on and turned it slightly to see where it was hitting, then started grinding. It's not hard just a little time consuming, but you can get it done in time for the event.

Thanks Randy. That's kind of what I figured, but I didn't know if there might be something pop up that wasn't obvious. We all know THAT'S never happened on these cars

Lt1 or LS1? if its an LT1 you can just throw a 5/16 spacer on there and you are good to go

If you look at my avatar you'll see it's a Trans Am GT. They were only made for a half year in '94, so I guess that would make it an LT1

Anyone else use spacers on the rear wheels? I don't know if I like that idea or not. Doesn't seem like slip-on spacers are a close enough fit for something like that. The front wheels are a different story. They're just free rolling without much torque being applied to them. The rear wheels though.....I don't know...

Opinions???

I have the 15x10 Weld Pro-Stars and ground the fins off the calipers. I personally wouldn't put a spacer on the rear wheels of a drag car. I have a picture of the caliper, but its not real clear:

Thanks Fred. That doesn't look like too much of a problem. I was starting to think the entire fins had to go. But that looks like most of them are left. Yeah, I don't think I'd feel real comfortable with a spacer.

Thanks again

I have 15x10 draglites, you can run a spacer and make them fit but I would also recommend you not do that with a drag car. On the street is another story... But as for the calipers its not that bad. you dont have to take all of them off, just the ones on the outside of the caliper. I found the best way is with a 4" grinder and a metal wheel on it. If you dont have one and are willing to buy one, Your best bet is to go to a Sears and get one. I bought a 4.5" Craftsman grinder for just about $50 last year.

Huh??? Am I missing something - or are you? Sorry if you didn't know what a Trans Am GT is

Please name/show me one. Rear wheel spacers on a 9 second car wouldn't (shouldn't) get past tech, much less on to the track

most LS1 guys with Welds run spacers unless they have a diff caliper.

It doesnt matter, you arent going that fast anyways, so why worry

That's pretty funny actually What does being fast or slow have to do with winning bracket races, or for that matter being as safe as possible while doing so?

Maybe you actually do know someone. But that doesn't make it legal - or the safest thing to do. Ever hear of fatigue failure? It might work fine.....for a while

At your power level, you're not fatiguing anything except maybe MBon's patience.

I sheared off the lugs in my 78 ford courier once. Anything can happen.
