Very Dissapointing Track Times-help needed!!
When i first bought my car about 2 years ago it came with a flowmaster and that was it. I put a new shifter on it and a K&N cai. I then made it to the track and was turning 14.1's @99 with 2.20-2.3 60's. I thought this was alittle slow but the 60ft times is what i attributed the problem to. I had made one trip to the track last year with my headers/cam and other boltons but the clutch was slipping very bad and i could only pull a 13.9@101 with a 2.2-3 60'. I had a new clutch put in about a month ago so i was ready to get back to the track. Let me go ahead and blame part of the problem on my tires. I had to get some new ones awhile back and they are definitely not track friendly. First run i ran with my buddy in the car and rand a 14.4 with a 2.55 60'@100. We are both big guys so i took that into account along with the 60'. What bothered me was the MPH. Next run was a 14.1 with a 2.56 60'@103. Finally my last was 14.0 @102.5 with a 2.45 60'. Now i do know that these 60's are HORRIBLE but i am still getting accustomed to the new clutch. It seems to engage much faster than the one in there before ever did. I guess my question is, I know that my 60's are way off, but shouldnt my MPH be WAY higher. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If your car is in good tune, I hate to say this but, I would have to question your driving. At what RPMs are you shifting gears and are you letting of the throttle when you shift? You may not think you are letting off very much when you sift. However even a spilt second of letting off will definetly slow you E.T. and MPH. I mean no offense to you . Good Luck!

You probably would be suprised how much letting of the throttle will slow you down. However, I have to ask this first. Have you had your computer programmed since the cam installation? If not you really should.
Anyway, when I am racing I "power shift" like you said, I am not letting off the throttle at all. Let me tell you it definetly takes practice. I initially learned how to power shift on dirt bikes and quads, then I translated it to my car. It is scary to do at first. You can practice on the street if you are careful. Actually you can try it at partial throttle settings by not letting off and shifting real quick then slowly work your way up to the full throttle position.
You may want to set your rev limiter alittle lower for safety because you will miss gears from time to time. When that happens you can't let off the throttle quick enough. You will bounce it off the limiter.
Good Luck!

MPH is relative to traction as well, depending upon how bad you spin etc. For instance I got bad traction in my car and my mph was a 110.3, the next run I went from a 2.09 60 foot to a 1.72 60 foot and my mph shot up to 115.4 mph. my E.T. also climbed from a 12.54 to an 11.92, thats 6 tenths of a second and 5 mph and 45 some odd minutes apart!!!
The first run I spun a little then it spun bad and I had to let off the throttle for a split second, that must have been enough to stop momentum.
