Tire width Vs. height
Tire width Vs. height
I am thinking of ET streets for my traction problem at the track. Would anyone have an opinion on my choices. 27x10.50 on a 16 x8 rim or 26x11.50 on a 17x10 rim. I have a little too much gear right now and thought I wanted the 27 inch tire but maybe the wider tread would help more with traction. I run a 275/40 17 " drag radial so even the 26 is about half inch taller.
I am using a 15" rim. For drag racing a taller siedwall is better than a short one. In the 15" x 10" size you can easily fit a 26" x 11.5" x 15 tire and with minimal body cutting you can fit a 28" x 12.5 x 15 tire.
You might consider the Hoosier QTP (equivalent to the MT ET Street) because it comes in a 27x11.5x15 which fits beautifully on a 4th gen and would give you a little less torque at launch. If you want to use your 16" wheels, the MT 26x11.5x16 ET Street works well, though a 15" tire is better. As tnthub stated, a 28" might also be a good choice. You should stay away from a 17" tire for drag racing. There's a reason for the tall sidewalls you see at the strip.

Thanks Guys,
I will keep this in mind. I am going to hate myself for buying 17" Centerline rims last year, aren't I? I planned on 99 percent street and 1 percent drag racing. Who knew it would be so much fun. Now I want to trash my lowering springs and wish I had spent the extra for the HAL QA1 shocks instead of the Bilsteins.
