Tinted Windows=No Go?

ok so i was looking at the rules for my local dragstrip, Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, and they say no tinted windows unless factory. will they really not let me on the strip with light aftermarket tint or do they not care about it too much?

There are alot of rules that most tracks dont care about or even check.

I'm pretty sure they will still let you race.

There are no window tint rules in the NHRA/IHRA rule books except for the windshield. You must have a clear view forward.

My windows are all tinted in limo 5% except the windshield, and Atco has never mentioned it, they must be talking about the windshield.

I have friends that run at Infineon with dark glass all around and haven't had any trouble. Wouldn't worry about it.

NHRA General Regulations 7:9

Windshields and/or windows must be clear, without tinting or coloring, except factory-tinted safety glass.

It is in the rulebook but there are also other rules that many tracks ignore especially for street cars. If in doubt, contact your local track and ask.

Better grab a new rule book. In the 2006 NHRA book there is no 7:9.
In 7:8 it says In the POWERade & Lucas Oil dragracing series all windows must be clear except for factory tint. In ALL other applications, windshield/window tint must meet the applicable state requirements.

They will let you run there. Tech was a breeze. Basicly of your car is not falling apart, and your battery is strapped down....your good. At least for a fairly slow street car.

Re: Tinted Windows=No Go?

I got halted last time at Infineon and will probably not go back.

First my helmet only had a 1998 DOT/Snell rating. They wanted a 2000+ rating. Then when he saw my Procharger, and he asked about my fire retardant racing jacket. I pointed to my leather motorcylcle jacket and he barely let me go with a stern warning. blah, blah, blah. Since when is my procharger going to burst into flames?

I don't need to invest in another $50+ on a jacket just to blow another $20 at a drag strip so I can blow another $20 on gas getting to and fro. It's just not that fun anymore.

The helmet was okay last year and no jacket was required. Now you need to be dressed to burn. I suppose next year, I will need to get some double-insulated nomex flying suit with an auxilliary oxygen tank and builtin Halon dispenser and auto ejection system with quick release before I can run.

I would wager that the tech officials believed the Procharger made the car fast enough to warrant the fire jacket. I used to not care about safety, but my views have changed recently. I've seen too many friends wad their cars up like this in the last few years not to...

I've never seen anyone get tossed for tinted windows either.

I talked to our track tech guy about this and he said that as of March 06 a new rule went into effect that any aftermarket Forced Induction car or any modified OEM FI car must now wear a single layer fire jacket.
So I asked him what "modified" would constitute and he said anything that would increase boost or hp up from stock. So even a guy with a 4 popper with a blower or hairdryer who just has a chip has to get a fire jacket.

Obviously at first glance when a person sees a power adder they know it's going to run faster than a stocker, and most assume when going to that sort of length the car will perform well. The rules set-in place are just like building codes, they are the bare minimums to get by and folks that care will go above and beyond since, hey, this is YOUR LIFE we're talking about here. Slow down and think for a second of all the guys/gals before us that paved the road in racing getting burned, disabled, killed that went out that day thinking, I'm just going to make a few passes. Anybody that has spent REAL TIME at a race track knows anything can happen at anytime and I'm sorry to say the worlds greatest drivers that are/were better than any of us have had accidents...things happen quicker than you obviously realize. But if you think it's a conspiracey theory against you then your right, it's probably better you stay off the track and stick to car shows or ice cream runs.
