TH350/TH400 Guys !!! Converter help !

Hey Guys,
I was wondering what size converter you guys run in your TH350/TH400 trannies ? I've been looking at a Hughes soft hit 8 inch converter 4200 stall. Note that my car is mostly a strip car now and I may put it back on the street in the future. Would you guys go with an 8 inch converter or a 9 or 10 inch converter ? Thanks in advance

I run an ATI 8" with my TH350. I was running a TCI 10" before this one. Definately go with the 8".

I run a 9" 4800-5000 stall converter. I love it and it is perfectly streetable. The converter was also made to run on a 250 shot so that could be the reason why the converter shop recommended a 9" over an 8". Just go with whatever is recommended for your car for optimum strip performance and you won't be disappointed as long as the shop that makes the converter is good at building the converter.

I think if you intend to do any street driving a 9" should be used. For all out race, get an 8".

I use a JW 8" converter. All the bells and whistles in it and it stalls at 5700 on the transbrake.

Thanks Guys. I'm leaning towards a 8 inch hughes "soft hit" 4200 converter and a hughes TH350. Do you guys think this is a good choice or should I concider ATI ? I've seen where the ATI tranny does come with a 9" tailshaft ,so that would eliminate any driveshaft changes. I currently have a denny nitrous ready driveshaft now with my 700r4.

Well Mac, I have the Hughes th350 with the 8in 4000/4200 soft hit converter and I love mine. I really can't tell you much about ATI since I've never done business with them. This will be my second full season with the hughes setup and with this winters mods I hope to be in the high 1.4's in 60ft and run 11.6's @ around 113-114 mph. Let me know what you get and how it works. Later.

Hey Guys,
Well I just bought an ATI TH350 today. It should be here by next week. Now, the problem still remains on which stall to get. I know I said I was leaning towards a Hughes 4200 and I still might go that route ,but the cost around $850.00 from summit. The ATI stalls cost $900.00 plus !! I really need some good advice on this one fellas. The bottom line ,I plan on going with an 8 inch converter for all out racing. I want no less than 4000 to 4500 in stall speed. What do you guys think about TCI 8 inch converters ? I'm sure it cost less than the other two and TCI has been around for years. Tell what you guys think. Thanks

You really need to talk to the converter manufacturer. The guy at Coan spent ~1/2 hour on the phone with me. I was impressed with his knowledge and patience, that's why I spent $1,070 with them for a 10" converter.
