Post Small Slicks adn Et's??????

i am starting to look at suspension for the motor i am starting to build for next year. i am also plannign a serious weight reduction.
i am wondering if a 26x9.5 slick or quick time pro could hook about 450rwhp?
i am expecting teh car to weigh around 2700-2800lbs.
i am only asking because it seems liek most of teh larger tire/wheel combos require hammering the wheel well in soem way and i woudl prefer to not have to do that. if i have to then i will though.

thanks
tim

Let me get this straight. You're going to strip the car down to 2700lb race weight, but you don't want to hammer the wheel wells? That makes sense.

If you filled the tires with helium it might cut down on the weight But what kind of Camaro weighs 2,700-2,800 pounds? At that weight you will need a big tire for 450rwhp if you expect to launch hard.

This was my first thought but I wasn't going to post it.

Also, I don't think you'll be able to strip the car down to 2700lbs. If you do, please post everything you did, because I'm willing to do anything I can to drop my race weight. Heck I think I'm even going to go on a diet

notgetleft, i don't see your point. i just don't wanna bash on body panels if i don't have too, i don't think that is an unreasonable position, do you?
rskrause, that is the weight range i figure i can get eh car down to. the basic idea is just to strip the car of everything and then throw the carpet and trim back on, hopefully with that lightened in some way as well. my car weighed 3280 with me and 1/2 tank last year with the a/c, ps, pl, pw, p-hatch, stock seats still in place. by removing all teh power crap, installing lightweight seats on aluminum brackets, and playing with soem fiberglass i can, in theory at least, get teh car down in weight even though i have to add a roll bar and i will be running iron heads. figure i have to remove about 500lbs to come around 2800 final weight. in any case, i expect teh car to be well under 3000lbs.
i will put up a more detailed post once i see where ti turns out.

thanks guys

To get that far under 3000lbs race weight you are going to have to completely gut that car and put it back together. Gut isn't even the word. Maniacally attack it would be more appropriate, inclduing leaving out every unnecessary fastener, cutting off any extra bolt length, swiss cheesing everything non-structural, etc.

After you go through that much work, taking a BFH to your wheelwells (a completely invisible mod, in an obviously gutted race car) would be no big deal. Your logic just doesn't make sense (and i guess i'm not the only one who found it strange

I have ran 30" X 9" X 15" Hoosier Drag Radials on my formula without having to do any mods to the wheel well and I believe there was room for a 29"x10"x15" Hoosier bias-ply slick also (haven't tried it yet but it looked like I could get it to fit with out any clearance problems). So there is room to put a taller tire in there I am just not sure on how wide you can go. BTW the radial tires were just for drag racing not DOT legal.

My car is 3610 with me in it and I weigh 200 pounds. You must have done a lot of weight reduction already. I do have a six point bar and driveshaft loop, but I have Kirkey aluminum seats, aluminum driveshaft, removed the carpet backing, removed the console, no rear seats, sut off all the metal clips under the carper, front and rear bumper supports have been removed as well as the foam and foglights. I'd like to know how you got down to that weight and still leep it streetable.

Thats with 8pt rollbar, moser 9" both bumpers still in. No ac/ps Summit race buckets, replaced stock carpet. I was actually shocked to see it that light, cant wait to get the bumper supports out.
