slipping the clutch?

Sorry for the noob question, but what exactly is slipping the clutch? do you mean pretty much riding the clutch so you can feel it starting to grab, then slowly let it out? i really have no other ideas as to what it could be

I assume you are speaking of a track launch since this is in the drag section....

Dumping the clutch is just what it is.... Set the rpm and pop it.... Rough on parts and if it hooks you are taking a ride.

Sllipping the clutch is basically a quick release. Instead of an all out clutch dump, you release the clutch pedal in a very fast yet very smooth manner to minimize actual slippage while avoiding the violent shock of a full scale dump. It is a difficult maneuver to get perfectly each time at the exact right rpm and the exact speed of release to produce identical times for comparison and evalulation purposes.

However it is a very good technique to learn as once you master it you can have very consistent lights, very consistent sixty foot times, and it is much easier on the car. But as I say... You must be perfect with it or you will burn out clutches faster than tires.

Yea it takes a while to master. Too fast and the car will bog. Too slow and you burn out the clutch. I feel better about abusing the clutch some instead of shocking the rear.
