Shifting/Launching tips wanted!

Ok, I know this sounds dumb asking for these but I've spent soooo much $$$ on my car that I don't want to make dumb mistakes!! So here goes! I was wondering what sort of launching and shifting techiques you guys use with mods similar to mine. I find that with this cam there is virtually no decent power under 3500rpm. But when I do hit that the car simply flies!! So how do you launch and how are you shifting?.....pushing the clutch in fully, tapping it, etc...

Thanks!

I launch at around 3500 rpms on ET Streets. I hold the revs around 3200, then floor it and drop the clutch as the rpms come up. This helps keep the car from bogging. I powershift at the track - don't lift the gas pedal between shifts.

What sort of clutch/gas pedal action do you use?

When I launch? I mat the gas pedal and drop the clutch. I don't feather/slip the clutch at all on launch.

Powershift - keep the gas pedal on the floor, punch the clutch just enough so it disengages and shift hard and fast.

I still have the factory 10-bolt as well. I know I'm on borrowed time w/it, but I don't see the point of going to the track with slicks and not launching hard. Might as well go on street tires.

Best way I found to launch on DR's is to dump the clutch at around 2800-3000 (Don't side-step it) and apply just enough throttle to keep the rpms there as the tires are spinning and as soon they feel like they are going to grip punch it... I usually run them at about 18-20 psi...

I usually launch at 2800-3000 on the track and about 2300-2500 on the street...

As far as ET streets are concerned, I have no idea...

He asked...I answered. It's not bad advice...it works for me and that is what he was asking for...personal experiences. I'm sure the guy has a brain and was taking my suggestion as just that...not as a launching technique written in stone. Calm down."OK?"

Good thread here (if everyone calms down) I need help with launches as well, my first time will be this weekend at the track. I am pretty nervous but hey, thats part of the fun. PS, there is no bad advice, just differences in opinions.

I'm far away from getting good launches myself (best 60' 1.7), but 97 Bowtie, your only getting 1.9 60' times on ET Streets. Sounds like we need some more advise on this topic!

Hmm...never said I was getting good launches. Please..show me where I said that. The main reason for the bad 60's is due to the tracks here. The car just won't hook and they rarely prep the tracks. I've cut a best 60' of 1.83 - which also is no good as far as I'm concerned. He asked how people are launching...I replied. Is that so hard for you guys to understand? I never said it was the end-all launching technique. I told him my technique and he can see my 60' times in my sig. Seems pretty straight forward to me.
