Racing my vert questions..
I haven't been able to take vert to track yet but am this weekend.I have had to make due with my tazzo times.The vert was usually running a 14 to 14 .3 or so at around 100mph with a 2.3 60ft usually.
Today I did a few things different and got some much worse times.One I had top down in the vert today..it was top up in the other runs.Does the top down really slow a vert down..??
Second had full tank of gas think had 1/4 the other times guess a tenth or so there?
Third can very heavy headwinds slow the car down an lot like 30 or 40mph winds today.I did race once in each direction not sure which way wind is exactly today.I only could get like 94 to 95 mph today.And for some reason can only get 2.4 to like 2.5 60fts no matter what I try..stab the gas..go into the gas more gently..stall the car.This is on cooper cobra and think they are only 235 16 inch tires not even 245 tires.
So not sure where my 50hp went from looking at present versus
past runs.It was maybe a bit cooler on past runs its not that hot today mabye 60 to 70 degrees.not humid either.Should be good weather.
Car seems to be running good no misses..good idle..pulls good to redline feels strong..
Mostly want to know about that top up or down thing.One buddy is insisting its not good to run verts top down for racing.

go to the track and get some real times.....thats the only way to really tell. Having the vert down will slow you down a decent amount though I would think......but having less gas isnt worth a tenth.
The top up or down will make some difference but not that much under normal conditions. The amount of drag caused by the top down wont come into effect until you get up to speed.
The 30 to 40 mph head wind is huge. 95 mph with a 40 mph head wind is equivalent to 135 mph. The aero drag at this speed is substantial.
Go get some real times in different condition. Have some fun!!

Ok guys I ran top up today and there is like zero wind.
I ran five runs but they are super inconsistent for mph. and et.
Here they are maybe you guys can help.I lowered tire pressure to 28 psi and that seems to have helped a bit.I practiced some 60fts and got best of 2.26 either stalling it to 1500 or just stepping on it gradually off idle.
Keep in mind guys this is still tazzo times but I assure you I have run it at the track and it was within a tenth for et..right on for 60ft and about 2.5 mph higher than track mph.
I will be at track tommorrow but really would like some ideas today.I will for sure lose in brackets with these all over the map et and mphs.
Here they are..: 14.82 at 94.2mph 2.31 60ft no brake torque
14.82 at 94.3mph 2.34 60ft,brake torque
14.55 at 97.4 mph 2.30 no brake torque
14.36 at 99.8mph 2.31 brake torque
14.65 at 95.4 mph 2.30 brake torque.
I will be hooking up my hpp powerscan and checking for anything weird in pending codes.I have no check engine light on.
I have 60,000 miles on the car.I replaced fuel filter this year and for mods I have g2 air induction,holley filter,airfoil,1le bellows,tb bypass ,160stat,hpp but tuning out.2.73 gears. I seem to get consistent around 100mph with the car near stock and am wondering if the gms maf is being inconsistent.I bougth it used off the board.I can swap the stock one back in and see what happens to my mph and resultant et.
I also have a water pump fail and it did weep and then when changing it did get lots of water on and near opti.The car idles smooth and don't seem to miss.Still this wide swings in mph seem to reflect about a 50 hp swing and not sure what can cause that..
Ideas guys..will have a report of any pending codes shortly and
will try the stock maf later today.

Spinner apreciate what you are saying but not all of us have a track in our backyard..closest to me is over 100 miles away but did go there this last weekend and make some runs.
Car ran 15.0 at 94 and two 14.96 with also around 94mph and 60fts of around 2.38 to 2.45.So guess consistent at least.
Buddies car that is a normal 94z with similar mods to mine but he has underdrive and flowmaster catback got best of 14.54 at 97.8 mph with like 2.52 60ft.Track was slick as heck and we were both on street tires.
So not sure what that proves either.I took my gms maf out for the track trip.I also did have a code for iat sensor and changed out the sensor and it seems gone.So maybe will throw my maf back in there and see what happens but can't go back to track likely this year and pretty much won't go back there without some drag radials.Depressing even a ls1 formula could only get a 13.95 at 102.5.Track is at 1600 elevation and betting it was a horrible density air day.Buddy with 94z got high 13s last year with same mods and actually added a borla ypipe lately.
So he seemed off 5 tenths.I guess the 94mph is about right for my near stock vert compared to other cars like his.

Not too sure if you already have them but Drag Radials will help a lot. Your 60ft is real high. The air also has a huge impact on performance. Track prep and temp also effect over all a ton. Are you an A4? If so 3:73 Gears, 2800 stall, Shift kit, Pcmforless or Madwolf/MadZ28 tune and Cutout. If not, all but the stall and shift kit.

Car is a 2.73 auto.They said can run top down but think have to have front windows up.Not sure what this does to times or aerodynamics.It would have been nice as it was pretty hot with top up no air on.
Yeah 60fts were bad.Track was supposedly prepped but didn't seem to make any diff.I can get the same or better 60fts on the street .
I realize need drag tires.Likely getting some for my 99 shortly.And could throw them on the 96 for occasional track visits or might put nittos on both my 99 and 96 cars,Getting et street radials on my 80 for track use only.Not sure if the 80 draglite bolt pattern fits on the 96 or 99 too.They are 15 by 8 forget offset and bolt pattern though.Maybe try one on my fourth gens thought they hit the ls1 calipers or something though.Might work on the 96.
My 80 was build to be the track car not the vert or 99.The 99 is garage queen the vert is just a fun semidaily driver in summer.The 80 is also daily driver in summer.My talon does that job in winter and thruout the year especially in bad weather.
