How do you determine what compound to use when choosing a slick?
TIA

Re: question about slicks for you serious racers.

I don't usually care since a single tire manufacturer won't have the same size tire in different compound. If I want a MT 29.5 x 10.5 then there's only one compound to pick from because they only offer that size in one compound.

Since there's no standard rating, compound ratings are not all the same. Is a MT M5 compound the same as a Goodyear D3? The D3 is considered Goodyear's hardest compound. Then again there's Hoosier D07 which is considered a medium compound.

I had some Hoosier 29 x 10 with a very soft D05 compound and loved them but they never lasted a season before they were worn out.
