Proper way to Power Shift

I've recently started doing this, and I like it

I have a question though...

Is it bad to keep the gas pedal all the way down when pushing the clutch down and shifting?

Are you supposed to do it this way, or are you supposed to let off a little and then shift while holding the gas down?

If you masters of power shifting could describe to me how its done, I'd be much abliged

Thankssssssssssssssss

Hey

Yeah, thats exactly right.......hold the gas down and then shift.
Now u can do some harm to the tranny and specially the synchros. I don't recommend power shifting.......u can do it every once and a while but not all the time coz i can assure u will damage something.

I do it during races where I think the race will be close, which means not too often. I wouldn’t recommend doing it … unless you WANT to get a new tranny ;]

if your racing with a stick, the best way is w.o.t. the whole pass. if you can shift fast enough the rpm won't move much.

Very rough on the transmission and to some extent on the motor (which is on the rev limiter while you shift). I wouldn't recommend it for a street car that occasionally sees the strip. Power shifting will gain ~0.3-0.5sec in a quarter mile though.

I stopped power shifting when I noticed it gained me no time.

if anything power shifting will lose time i think

everytime i power shift i chirp my tires (even in 4th) .. i got video to prove it .. and im not even making all that much power !!! (the street twin is one tough SOB i tell ya )

id rather shift a bit easier and not lose traction on each shift than be the cool guy who chirps in 4th (or majorly loses traction in 3rd and hits the wall . as some of u remember me posting about it a whle ago )

if your hitting the rev limiter or chirping the tires your not shifing fast enough. speed shifting (shifting fast, but letting up) will usually cause the tires to break loose again easier than a power shift.

Powershifting takes practice. I did it when my car was a stick. Iy was the only way I could keep my car consistent for bracket racing. You have the basic technique. If you are too close to the rev limiter either speed up your motion or lower your shift point.

BTW: I raced like this for 2 1/2 years and never had any problems with synchros. I did however burn through seven clutches.

Yeah, my clutch is going out as well... but I don't think it's due to the powershifting I've been doing. I've had the same clutch for however long the previous owner's had it plus 7 months of my own.

I went to the street races with my car team last night, and hit up a 5.0 w/ some bolt ons running on slixx.

I got a super sexy launch off of him and power shifted from there. We were pretty much neck and neck but everytime I shifted I pulled on him while he lost maybe a 1-2 secs shifting.

I think I'm gonna switch to this style, hasn't lost a race for me yet. I can always win the money for clutches

You have a 2000 and your clutch is already gone??? My car has 70K on it and is still on the stocker.

I have powershifted my car at the track for the past year or so. You shouldn't be hitting the rev limiter if you are shifting quick enough. I have picked up .1-.15 on average, powershifting.

tnthub ran through 7 clutches in a course of 2 1/2 years... What's the big deal? I thought my clutches time of death was ordinary?

I really dont know what the normal life is, if you take it to the track and race it a lot its understandable. Mine is also on its last legs so I'll be needing a new one soon.
