Proper way to Power Shift
Probably the street twin, so by the time my engine is finished next summer I will have a clutch that can handle the power. I don't want to buy a cheap one and have to replace it next year, so I'll just spend the money and do it right the first time.
and to answer your original post, i keep the gas pedal all the way down and push the clutch in and shift as fast as possible.

Straight cuts, what also maybe known as a dog box, literally uses a straight cut gear. Instead of using synchros, through them out, the gears look like something you would see in a truck tranny or reduction gears for an airplane prop. Instead of having a twist to the teeth (like a helical (sp) cut gear) they are totally perpendicular to the tangent of the circle they sit on. In other words if you were to look @ a gear from the side, you would see the teeth coming off in perfect lines, where as a normal gearbox with helical cuts and synchros would start to curve around the gear. Hope that kinda helps, I might have confused you more. Anyways, that's what all the NASCAR tranny's are, they don't need to use the clutch to shift up or down, just mash the gas, lift ever so slightly when you pull gears and on the downshifts, left foot on the break, right on the gas, match your gear speeds and jam gears.
Only problem with a straight cut gear box is that they are noise as hell.
I've never NOT powershifted at the track. Never broken a tranny and my car was running consistent 10 teens for a whole season!! If you are not experiencing any et gains by powershifting, you shift too slow. Practice, practice, practice. I've had tons of people come by where I was pitting and couldn't believe my car was a stick. Driver preference I guess.

I powershift... attributes alot to my decent times for a 3.4L with so few mods(beating heads/cam guys).
but....
4th clutch
2nd driveshaft
2nd tranny mount
2nd rebuild(as in was rebuilt then broke again, and rebuilt)
2nd rear end
2nd torque arm(yes I broke a torque arm with a 3.4L)
My car is a 94 with 126,000 miles on it.
It does help, it is bad for the car, and the primary problems with my tranny was a stripped gear, and worn synchros all over the car.

That's why jerico trannies don't run synchros and use the stronger straight cut gears, you can flatshift / powershift, w/ or w/o clutch, and have tons of power and not truely worry about breaking tranny parts. Then again, there are always the planetary gear setups of Lenco and Liberty Gear. Clutchless trannies =

You should be fine, as long as you don't miss a shift. Bouncing a motor off the limiter under boost or N2O is most definately not a good thing. If you think you can rip the gears quick enough and not miss the shift, then powershift it.
