OMG, where is my MPH?
OMG, where is my MPH?
Mods are below. I haven't put the FPR on yet. I went 13.9 @ 100 when the car was stock. I made a couple passes last week and went 14.2 @ 101 on some horendous 2.45 60's. I had a bad collector leak. I also found out this week that I had a fried plug wire. So, I sealed the exhaust up and put new wires on the car and went back to the track this week. I went 13.84 @ 100.91 on the motor, and 13.74 @ 109.29 on the spray. I'm not to concerned with the MPH on the spray, because I had low bottle pressure, but I thought i should have been in the 104 -105 range on the motor. I do have a bad clutch in it. It will slip hard in fourth on the spray, but hold ok on motor. Any ideas where my mph is? This is driving me nuts.

Re: OMG, where is my MPH?
Back when my car was fairly stock, (shorty headers, cat back, hurst shifter, drag radials, and cold air), I was generally running 13.5s-13.6s at 100-101. That seemed fairly normal to me. I do not run nitrous so I cannot comment on that.
However my 60 foot times were generally 1.8s and 1.9s and the 1/8 splits were usually in the 8.75 range.
I guess I simply do not see much wrong with your MPH in a full weight car.
The MPH will increase as you add power. Power, for all practical purposes, is made in the heads and I believe that is where you will receive the most benefit especially when combined with a cam and some tuning specific to your setup. you also should work on getting that sixty foot down and putting a new clutch in it.
Clutches will go either slowly through an increase in slipping or quickly (I lost one at Englishtown one night very suddenly when I pulled second gear (there was no warning and it only had a couple thousand miles on it at the time). It went so bad it was all I could do to limp back to town and call for help. I couldn't even make it back to my motel.

I ordered a Spec stage 2 clutch. Hopefully that will help some. I just expected more than a 1 mph gain over stock with the mods I've done. I've seen posts of guys picking up 2.5-3 mph with headers alone. Even with cats...

Re: OMG, where is my MPH?
Was weather any different on these two days? Also if your clutch is slipping on spray then it might just not be strong enough or it could be slipping in the higher rpms and you just dont feel it. How many miles are on it?
I know my car with a cutout/msd and a open airbox went 106 on a nice night so something is missing.

Re: OMG, where is my MPH?
signs point to the clutch to me. Temps were in the low to mid 50's with low humidity. i guess i won't find out until I put a new one in it. the clutch has been in the car longer than I've owned it. I've put around 20k miles on it. I have been spraying it for a year and a half...

Re: OMG, where is my MPH?
I sure hope you're right. If it isn't the clutch, then I guess my motor's starting to get tired. Some nitrous will sure help in tiring a motor quickly though, i know that. My clutch got here yesterday, and I'm hoping to get it in this weekend. I'll let you guys know the verdict when I get done.
Thanks
