In racing and aviation, it's short for Density Altitude.

In body work and woodworking it's short for Double Action as in a sander but I'm assuming you wanted the first definition.

Thanks for the replys. And thanks for the link to the "Density Altitude Calculator."

Looks like currently the DA in my area is -2311.9 ft. based on a temp. of 32 F, Dewpoint of 29 F and Pressure of 30.41 in Hg. If the track was open it would be an ideal time to make some passes.

I have heard before that you guys get some killer DA. It might explain some of the kick *** times I see for what mods are done to the respected cars I'm talking about. Not that there aren't enough fast cars from Texas, even without the good DA.
Do what I do at the track. Just ask some of the big boys if they know the DA. They usually already know, or it takes them a minute to check for you.
Be carefull with anything under -2500 DA, Ive heard of cars going into warp drive at the 1/8th mile, and never to be seen again.
