New Times but...

Went racing this weekend. Got a new PB in all categories:
1.669/7.752@88.89/12.160@106
backed it up to:
1.674/7.7764@88.75/12.176@111.08
Then I stalled it up 3k and spun to:
1.702/7.789@88.83/12.188@111.29

I made other runs trying different stuff but the car did not like them. I really wanted 11.99 out of the car but not sure how I will get that. The car with me in it was 3440 on the 1st and 2nd runs. 3340 on the 3rd run. DA was 374ft. Temps were in the high 50s and mid 60s, too hot really.

Can I get the 11.99 I really wanted with the HOT cam? Will 4.10s help? Got 3.73 right now. Or should I just be happy with the 12.teens and start spraying? I figure I can pull more weight out of the car but it will take 150 to 200#s to get it down where it would run the number on the same day....

Shon, I'm going in the opposite direction. I'm taking the 4.10's out and putting 3.73's in. The string of 12.0's from last season were ran with me crossing the stripe after shifting into 4th gear. I'm on my 6000 RPM shift lite about 50-75 Ft. before the finish line @ 112 MPH.

Great Times. I would be happy with those times out of my LT4 conversion.

Are your heads the stock LT4's or ported?

I have stock LT4's with the HOT CAM and can only get a 12.7 out of mine. I know there is more in it though

The heads have bowl work, 2.02/1.60 valves, and Comp 977 springs with Ti retainers, set up by NuTek.

The heads do not flow that well in comparison to others out there.

The real ET reducer I have found is Weight, the car was a 12.7 car until i started pulling weight out of the car.

What all have you done to the car as far as weight reduction?

I have been considering dropping some weight but wasn't really sure what to pull from it.

i have pulled front/rear bumper supports.
Draglites
All sound deadening from carpet, as much of the plastic thing on the firewall.
I pull the passenger seat at times.
I have a hard top.
I run with no fluid in the windshield washer res. but plan on pulling that out of the car sometime.
as little gas a possible, it was too high Saturday.
No floor mats.
No STB, No Cruise. Only 2 front door speakers. All misc junk out of the car. No rear seat or jack/spare.
I dont know what else....but that is the major stuff!!

I'd stick with the 3.73's dude... I'd see the 4.10's giving you alot of trouble when you start spraying

28" tires will handle the spray. I am out of gear with the 26" tires and 3.73s. I cross right now at 5800/6000.

I don't know why your car doesn't run quicker than it does Shon. It should 60' better than that and then you are going to have to run quicker in the 1/8th. I got mine back together with LLoyd's heads, longtubes and it runs like a beast. I am sure my car would still run 11's with my old Hotcam with my current setup. I swapped converters tonite to a tighter 4k converter and it feels better. My car ran 11.66@117mph on a 1.66 spinning 60' with 3.42's. With the new converter and some tuning I am expecting 11.50's or better this weekend. Good luck Later Clint

Do you still have the AC?

I have considered the bumper supports, about how much weight do you think that saved you?
Also is there any visual difference with the supports removed? the front isn't flimsy or anything?

I agree with this statement!! The 60s suck if you ask me. And that is why I am considering 4.10s but dont think that is going to put me in the 1.5 range that I really want. I am thinking this Vigilante 3500 stall is just too much. it flashes to 4k. And on the dyno the TQ is at 420 instantly but begins to fall immediately, like a ski slope. I am thinking that a Vig 3k would be better but at this point I am not going to take the TC out and play with the stalls. I just dont have the place or the time to do it for now. I figure if i ever get to do a bigger cam it will be about right.

I will also add that my car has always been 'slow' on any temps above 60*s when compared to a low 50* night or even in the 40s. I can pick up 2 tenths with 10-15* cooler air. I have several trips to the track that can support this. It really likes the cool air.

I guess the question is, will 4.10s help me lose .5 in the 60's? Doubt it.
I also have been talking to a tuner and looking at time slips and my next trip to the track I will fatten it up just to see if I might have went too lean on the tune. I might can get some TQ down low by doing that.....

I do have the AC at this point.
Each support is about 30#s each and maybe a tad more.
The front nose is a bit flimsy but you cant really tell unless you push on it. and no way to know about the rear unless you tell someone...

Remember, Shon, your 60's would've been better had you left the 4L60E in it. 700/4L60E's have a lower first gear than a 350.

I know 2 people personally who swapped from 3.73's to 4.10's and 60'd, ET'ed, and MPH'ed worse. Once swapping back to the 3.73's, everything majically picked back up.
Trust me, I was a real hardhead about swapping to 3.73's. I'll know what difference it makes in March.
I pull 1.67 60 ft. times with a full weight, stock suspension car...With a 3800 stall converter...The last few 12.0 runs were made with 3/4 tank of gas!

Mine likes cool air also, but high humidity kills it, too. If you go to my web page, and click on "Timeslips", you'll see what conditions I went 12.0 in. BTW, that was only 60ing a 1.69.

Methinks Shon needs one of Frank's "Bullet Proof" transmissions...

Or me driving it, since I historically run everyone's car faster than the owner does
