New to MTX, need help with start...

Okay, I recently bought a 91 Camaro (V-8 L03), and it was my first experience driving a 5-speed. I've gotten pretty good at just your everyday driving, but I have trouble getting fast starts off the line. My brother has a Mitsubishi 3000 GT and always wants to race me. From a roll, I can beat him, that's not a problem....but from a stop is another story. I can't get good speed off the line. Currently what I'm doing is, I'll slip the clutch to where I'm just holding the car still, then when we go, I slam the gas to the floor and let off the clutch. When I do this, my engine bogs down, and it takes it a couple of seconds to get going. I know I'm doing something wrong. Thanks for any help you can give a newbie.

rev the car higher....so u won't bog....u might start to spin the tires though...at which point..you'll want to rev lower..it just takes some practice and finding that "sweet spot"......

Question Re: New to MTX, need help with start...

I know what you mean, I tried yesterday reving higher, and all I did was sit there and spin. I know about launching autos, but shouldn't there be a way to launch a manual while keeping some traction. I know you can get stickier tires, or do a burn out first, but I'm not going to the track. I'm talking about getting a good start when someone in a Vette or something like that rolls up to you at a stoplight. All I can figure to do right now is start like I normally would for casual driving, then flooring it once I get moving. Maybe that's the best way...I don't know. By the way, thanx disturbed z28, I'll work on finding the sweet spot unless someone else has a better idea.
