New best....mph...?? (analysis question)
New best....mph...?? (analysis question)
I went out to Firebird tonight...heres the scenario:
My previous best MPH was 107.424 mph on a 2.183 60' time, in the middle of the summer and the ET was a 13.384 on that run. Here is what the 107.424 mph slip looked like:
60 ... 2.183
330 ... 5.817
1/8 ... 8.766
MPH ... 84.490
1/4 ... 13.384
MPH ... 107.424
I had the same exact setup I have now, except tonight I 'uncapped' the exhaust...I disconnected the exhaust just after the off road y-pipe...so essentially I was running straight y-pipe. It was also about 25* cooler (if not more) than when I ran the 107.424 mph.
With the exhaust opened up, it seemed to pull quite a bit harder. I can spin the tires through the top of second...which the car would never do before. Before if I did this, the car would bog almost immediately after shifting into 2nd, whereas tonight it would just pull right back up to redline while spinning...so it 'seems' as if the car is making some more power with the opened-up exhaust. Ok, onto the 'dilemma.'
Tonight, the trap speed in the left lane was way off on some runs. There was a Viper trapping 127 consistently all night (which is his normal trap speed)...but then he ran in the left lane and it said he trapped 147 mph. There was also an older Chevy truck, hooking hard running low-mid 10s trapping high 120s (128-129) consistently. He then ran in the left lane and it read a trap speed of 143 or something. These are just a few examples of how off the indicator was. However, there were a lot of cars that ran in the left and the trap speeds appeared to be right on (running low 16s at ~ 80-85 mph, mid 13s at 104 etc.). Sorry for all the seemingly unecessary bull**** in this post...but I want your guys' opinions, because if I did indeed trap what the slip reads...I'll be very happy!
On my second, and last run (left lane)...the slip reads a 13.469 @ 110.13. Heres a breakdown of the run:
60 ... 2.260
330 ... 5.848
1/8 ... 8.822
MPH ... 83.48
1000 ... 11.343
1/4 ... 13.469
MPH ... 110.13
As you can see, the 60' is pretty bad...the car wasn't hooking very well (track prep at firebird sucks) and was spinning hard into second and was spinning a little into third. With the exhaust opened up, the car was definitely stronger up top...namely in 3rd and 4th gear. The 110 mph is reasonable...I guess, but the 83.48 1/8 mph is a little hard to digest given the considerably higher trap speed. My question is, given the known inconsistencies in the left lane...would you accept this as real? I'm not sure what I think so I wanted to get your guys' thoughts. I know how much you all pick apart every kill story/timeslip etc...so heres your moment to shine.
j/k
A couple more things to consider: My friend's '93 Formula (pretty much stock) ran a 14.7 @ 100.02 mph in the left lane (on a 2.55x short time...spun REAL bad obviously). He later ran a 14.433 @ 99 mph in the right lane on a 2.377 60'. Also, on my first pass I missed third gear and ran a 13.738 @ 104.97 mph. That run looked as follows:
60 ... 2.261
330 ... 5.881
1/8 ... 8.984
MPH ... 80.27
1000 ... 11.571
1/4 ... 13.738
MPH ... 104.97
I wish I could have ran in the right lane again to see if I could have duplicated the MPH, but they closed the staging lanes. Most of the MPHs that were off...were WAY off, not just a couple mph. These are all the variables I can think of...just looking for some thoughts/opinions. Thanks
