Never have dragged... Neutral Drop or no?
Never have dragged... Neutral Drop or no?
hey guys i never have brought my car to the track and i was wondering wat was the best (not hurting ur tranny or engine) way to get off the line? a neautral drop sounds good but ****s up ur tranny....any advice? for a pretty much stock A4 95 LT1?
Re: Never have dragged... Neutral Drop or no?
I wouldnt ever do that in an auto. Some people just leave off idle and have good times. I like to footbrake it until 1500 rpm or so then launch. Just push the brake down firmly and press on the gas to bring your rpms up. Dont go to far and break the rear tires loose. You will have to play with it a little until you know how far you can go without breaking your tires loose or rolling through the light.
Re: Never have dragged... Neutral Drop or no?
If you neutral drop the tranny, you'll be buying a new tranny real soon. It's not a manual transmission. It doesn't work the same way. If you want to launch at a higher rpm, get a higher stall converter but a "stock" engine doesn't need a converter with a very high stall speed.
Launch at an idle or load up the driveline by holding the brakes and bringing the rpms up enough so that the tires don't break free. Normally you'll find doing this either way will give the same results with a stock car.

Re: Never have dragged... Neutral Drop or no?
Powerbraking it is always better it tend to give you that little jolt in the beginning to get you going. but if you have stock tires it may just help burn em up.
Re: Never have dragged... Neutral Drop or no?
Oh yeah umm...you'll want to just stall it up a little, go about 1/2 throttle and then gun it when you get traction. If you're dead hooking on drag radials, just stall it up and smash the gas.
Re: Never have dragged... Neutral Drop or no?
yea my car is basiccly complete stock def not set up for drag at all but i think im gonna go with the braking and reving up to about 1000 to 1500 rpms for al il lunch....i dont want to much stress on my engine or tranny
Re: Never have dragged... Neutral Drop or no?
unless you really care about your 60' times, you might want to practice launching from idle first, and then footbreak after you are used to it. i still launch from idle. my car is nothing to write home about, cutting 2.0 60's but 11.9-12.1 1/4 @ 118. running stock stall.
Re: Never have dragged... Neutral Drop or no?
wwow thats real good 1/4 times tho...11.9-12.1?? that is nice...i wanna run about low 12's by the time im done with it...mine is basiclly stock....i think i will run around 14 sec 1/4.....what do u think?.....so i should just throw her in drive and when that **** turns green punch it? lol seems too simple

Re: Never have dragged... Neutral Drop or no?
I like to launch off idle...i seem to get going quicker that way than i do footbreaking, but i havent had it to the track yet so i dont have 60' times to actually compare.

REgardless if you actually see the green light.....your waaaay late buddy
lotts stuff has to happen in .5 of a second between your actual reaction time to your cars vehicle reaction time...hence the leaving on last yellow rule.
