need suggestion on size of my next slicks...

Im moving upto a 28" ET drag from 26x10.5 ET streets .. im not sure which width ET drag to get .. they list 4 different 10.5s on their web page .. and a 9" ... what min size do u guys think i could hook up with ? my motor is about 390 rwhp 350 rwtq with a 100 shot of crack and 4.10s, M6 and street twin and hals all around

also, what size wheel (with what backspacing would u suggest?) im going with a 15 inch prostar probably... not sure on the backspacing or the best width of the wheel to accomodate the slick

i want the least amount of problems fitting the 28" monster under my wheel wells ...

ps. i couldnt hook worth sh*t on the ET streets.. even with hals.

Drag tires and DOT tires are measured differently. A DOT tire width is measured across the section of the tire (sidewalls). A drag tire is measured across the tread so the sidewall width will be wider. A 28x9 drag tire may be close to the same total width as the 26x10.5 DOT tire.

There is little difference between an ET drag and ET street tire except for the rain grooves in the ET street to get a DOT rating. If you're not hooking up with the tires then the tires are probably old or dried out.

Go with the 28x9 drag tires. If you check the specs on the tires you'll see a 28x9 ET drag is only 27.3" tall. They'll be a better combination for your 4.10 gears.

What rpm are you currently shifting at? What rpm are you crossing the finish line at?

5.5" backspacing with a 8" rim works well with the 28x9 slick. I had some on a 10" rim.

also .. whats the difference on the compounds listed on MT's web page here ... ?

i think i'll try the 28x9 on a 15x8 wheel .. its not exactly 28" tall so it wont affect my gearing as much (better for NA passes) and its a bit smaller so its easier to fit under the car etc ... and it technically should be enough for what im throwing at it... hopefully !

I agree about the 27" being a good size to try. It's what I am going with this year. The 28" didn't seem to have enough clearance radially, when the tire growth is considered. Even though I have clearanced the trailing edge of the wheel opening, there would be <1/2 inch clearance with a 28" tall tire. Since I didn't want to really hack up my car, the 27" seems like a good choice. I am using an 8.25" rim with 6.5" BS and it looks good to my eyes. Tucks in nicely under the fender lip.

The L4 compound is MUCH stickier than the M5 compound. Of course, they'll wear faster too.

so ur saying that the 9 inch tire (which comes with the L8 compound) is softer than the M5 10.5 therefore stickier ??

im leaning more towards the 9 inch tire. i just hope it holds up to my 100 shot of nitrous on the launch !!!

Well, if you have two 28x10.5 ET Drags and one is an M5 compound and the other is L4, the L4 will be the stickier of the two. IIRC, a majority of ET Drags/ET Streets are M5 compound.
